If Jeb Bush couldn't stand up to George Greer -- and Greer's rebellious order for local cops to resist a state agency and state law enforcement -- then how could he ever stand up to North Korea, Syria, China, Iran, Cuba, etc etc?? I was once a supporter of Jeb for Prez in 08- when he was still helping Terri. But after he let a swamp judge roll him, I realize he's not a man to be in the White House, with the responsibility of defending America against real threats (not swamp probate clerks).

I wouldn't write him off. Bush should have forcefully intervened, but by the year 2016 that will all have been forgotten (after eight years of Brownback).

Jeb as a practical matter was never in the running to be President after Dubya won in 2000. Too many Bushes freak people out - the critical juncture was when Dubya won the Texas gov race in 1994 and Jeb lost the Florida gov race in 1994.

If Jeb had won FL in 94, he would have most likely been the man to get the GOP nod in 2000) provided he got elected again in 1998). He lost in 94, Dubya won in 94 (kind-of against the conventional wisdom at the time). I recall Dubya's victory speech in 94, which I think he opened with 'Texans can dream!' with that classic Dubya delivery we have come to like!

He vanquished 'poor' Ann Richards - a good thing!

Also, don't forget that he's pitiful when it comes to fixing the state's horribly run instutitions of which, as chief executive, he has total control.

The child welfare agencies are worthless and he does nothing.

If you're going to overthrow the king, you have to succeed or else you're dead. Greer is the king and Jeb is politically dead.

I am sick of reading about people bitching about the Bush's losing. Courts are deciding elections, abortion, illegal immigration entitlements, education funding, terrorist rights, the juvenile death penalty, to ignore Congress... We are a representative republic, people who want change vote for it, otherwise we work within the boundaries of our Constitution. The Bush's would be out of order in superseding the court just as it was in ignoring Congress.

The federal Courts as would ruled against them, so he had judgments from beyond the state level.

Ridiculous article.

So many of us are unhappy with the way turn things have taken in Florida. And that is understandable -- what is happening here, it’s awful. But those of you tearing into Jeb and GW Bush over this, who believe one or the other should have sent in the troops to save Terri, your anger is misplaced.

We have heard quite a bit about checks and balances, separation of powers, recently. We’ve heard people say that the judicial branch is out of control. This is completely true. But these checks work both ways, and the solution to this error in one branch isn’t to repeat the same in another.

The executive branch cannot use its military or police powers to enforce its own will. Because the executive is given the most supreme of government powers, the only substantive power any government really has, that to use force to achieve its purposes, he can only act towards the objectives set forth by the legislature and interpreted by the judiciary. To do otherwise would be to declare martial law.

I’m not saying that there were no other options. Certainly it is up to the legislature and the people to rein in these nutty judges, for they have that power. And when a judge orders something such as this, it is up to the governor to deny him the use of any executive powers.

I believe the proper course of action on Jeb’s part would have been to forbid any policing body to enforce the judge’s order. If anyone went on to obey the judge, that person should have been stripped of his police powers. Continuing, that one could be arrested and this arrest enforced by executive might. Even this would be extraordinary, and in opinion fell the wrong way even worthy of impeachment, but it would be proper, legal, and true to the role of the executive branch.

Certainly Jeb failed to do these things in this case. But at the same time, this is not what I see any of his accusers asking for either. Instead we want direct intervention by the governor, and Jeb is right to refuse us that.

By no means can Jeb be held blameless in this whole affair, but so many of you people accusing him need some perspective. No governor in my memory has ever done so much, pressed the legislature so hard, to correct an injustice. And at the same time, Jeb has done it with a respect for the law and for the protections we the people are afforded against, well, against him and the power he wields. It hasn’t been enough, but it is more than any of his faceless accusers on both the right and the left have done for Terry in this case.

That family has had problems for years and to make it a
problem for the rest of the country is sick.

Why don't all you third party types go down and feed her.
If not, then shut up. You folks are the armchair generals.

It is your type that went third party and gave us Carter and Clinton.

The bush in Florida couldn't protect a little boy and is actively allowing a woman to be starved to death.

In 1999 he signed into law the procedural changes that actually set this current travesty of justice up.

Not only is he NOT fit to be a President.

He's not fit to be a DOG CATCHER.

And I hope, hope, HOPE that they impeach him.

I will donate money for that cause.

And I'll do it in the name of Terri.

He'd make sure his kids weren't abducted from U.S. soil, and not starved.

He's allowed it to others, making him DANGEROUS.

That's right. Jeb Bush is a bad, bad, man. You guys are the majority. If you don't get what you want, you should send in troops. That's my idea of solving domestic problems.

Mission accomplished.

Thank you,
Hillary

Can you just imagine the howling from the Left if Jeb Bush had done what you propose?
Absolute chaos from all fronts. The polls on this thing were all in favor of this being a family matter rather than the a State matter.
There are no winners anywhere here on either side.
This isn't the movies and we won't be seeing Bruce Willis or Tom Selleck coming to the rescue because whether we like it or not this is real life not a fantasy world.
A lot of this unfair to Jeb Bush, he did more than most to help Terri Schaivo and went out on a limb to do it.

Good point. He's right. Jeb wussed out here, sadly. The story of "why" will be a BIG one of the year.

IT would be interesting to know who the actors were who urged him to act and who urged or perhaps ordered him not to. It's all VERY VERY strange. Macabre. Eerie. Creepy. Apocalyptic.

In the final analysis, Jeb and W. are pussies.

Worthles hypocrites. They used the pro-life movement to get elected like cheap whores. The Kennedys might as well be in the White House and Florida's governor's mansion.
