Salem, Ore. - A picture of a Marine holding an assault rifle has sparked a wave of controversy at a Salem high school.
The problem began when the Marine's sister brought the picture to McKay High School to post on a classroom bulletin board.

Go to zerointelligence.net (apt name for this website on zero tolerance)and read what the principal has to say about the sword. Looks like the sword depiction will have to be "revisited."

Has become a Marine thing, but I remember my basic training ('64) when a couple of yahoos forgot and called a rifle a "gun" and the resultant festivities....

I'm letting myself in for a ton of flames -- but I feel that schools are a local matter. Whatever the community decides, as long as it's within the law.
I don't see anything wrong with pictures of armed services in a school and don't understand the thinking that prompts such thoughts, but I don't live there. Further, I would be insulted (and not a little mad) if people who didn't live in my community tried to change policy.

Why is a Scot Highlander carrying a French fencing foil anyway?...:)) Now that's a good question. My guess is that they couldn't study history well enough to come up with an accurate depiction. Being Oregon and all I'm sure the French Fencing Foil shown is the Nerf model.

Just the looney left, out of control. Wish they could find as much energy when it comes to teaching our children.
There is a poll on that site: 88% said it was ok to display photo!

the real hidden reason for the rejection is the Marine not wearing a shirt.
