Surf around a bit. The practice has nothing to do with Islam, and is practiced not only by Christians, but also by members of some African tribal religions as well. Any many (probably most) Muslims do not practice it. It is a regional/cultural abomination, not a religious one.
Pretty clumsy attempt to shift the burden of proof there, GS. I did much more than just "surf around a bit". Before I responded to your initial post I spent well over half-an-hour researching your assertion. Not only could I not find any references to honor killing being "practiced nearly universally among Ethiopian Christians", I could not find any documentation for honor killings in Ethiopia period in the published statistics of various international monitoring groups. Uganda, yes; Jordan, yes; Turkey, yes; even Norway, yes; but, none in Ethiopia.
This doesn't mean that it doesn't happen; it does mean that the burden of proof is yours. It's time to put up or shut up.
One other thing. While it is true that Islam does not specifically authorize or doctrinally condone honor killing, that fact is not equivalent to saying "the practice has nothing to do with Islam". Thus, while your statement that "It is a regional/cultural abomination, not a religious one" may be technically true, it is also true that the barbaric attitudes of Islam towards women contribute greatly to the type of cultural degradation and depravity which tolerates and even encourages it. The terms "Religion of Islam" and "Islamic culture" are not synonymous, anymore than are the terms "Christianity" and "Christian culture".
Let's see your evidence, please.
My original statement, in post #19 which was a direct reply to post #1, referred to "that particular abomination" -- the abomination I was referring to was the only one mentioned in post #1: "female circumcision". I don't know anything about the practice of honor killings among Ethiopians, and I don't believe it is practiced "universally" among ANY identifiable group. I wouldn't be surprised if some of it happens in virtually all communities where female genital mutilation is practiced, including Ethiopian Christians.
For what it's worth, Clara Harris (famed for running over her cheating husband with a Mercedes) and Lorena Bobbitt (do I even need to specify what she's famous for?) are both Lantina (Clara from Colombia, Lorena from Venezuela)

You are indeed correct. I read the initial excerpted paragraph posted by DogBarkTree, then accessed the Tampa Bay Tribune link and when I jumped back to the rest of the thread I missed DBT's final comment referencing "female circumcision", also known as "female genital mutilation" (FGM). I thought you were talking about "honor killing" which was mentioned a few posts down. FGM is, as you said, quite prevalent in Ethiopia.

No problem. I hadn't read the article, and so had no idea that the subject of honor killings was even being discussed here. As Lazamataz's erstwhile tagline says: "Proudly posting without reading the article since 2000" (1999 in Laz's case).
I try to avoid using explicit language when posting from work, lest the screening system send up red flags, causing the IT monitoring folks to start reading my posts. Alas, sometimes this results in misunderstandings . . .
It's not a joke. Islam isn't so bad if civilized people practice it. THINK about the way ANY religion is practiced in accordance with the heritage and history of its followers. Better Latinas than those who have a history of dictatorship, poverty and oppression. It is one step up.
Sometimes you gotta be practical and change/moderate a religion when you can't end it. I have read many portions of the Koran, and it isn't much different than the Old Testament. The key is the people and how they manifest that religion. If people who practice Islam come from a tradition of freedom, then Islam becomes more tolerant of other religions.
