There are differing "denominations" of Islam, and often it depends on where the Muslim is from and what their culture is. Perhaps if new converts come from nations where there's freedom, a more moderate version Islam will prevail and change it.

Female circumcision is practiced in a few African Islamic nations, and is not the rule. Religions change depending on which nations and peoples adopt it. I can't imagine a Latinized Islam, but it's gotta be better than the Iranian hard-line version.

"They also like the lack of intermediaries between them and God."

I was always under the impression that Christians can pray directly to God. Am I wrong? And in the Islamic world, if things are so direct between the believer and God, why are there all those Imams and Mullahs and religious tribunals set up to punish and terrorize anyone who doesn't toe the doctrinal line?

"That might contextualize the story a bit."

Excellent points; this story - at least as excerpted here - has no context or background.

To finish my point, in Islam it seems that there is always a mob of bearded fanatics standing between oneself and God.

I wonder if Amy knows the penalty for deciding islam is not for her.

Excerpt from Ask the Imam:

If she does not repent then the ruling of Allaah should be carried out on her, which is execution, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever changes his religion [leaves Islam], execute him.”

Even if you click through, there is nothing other than other female relatives of hers converted as well.

It doesn't say if any males converted - which may imply that the males involved never needed to convert in the first place.

I imagine anyone can pray directly to God. I didn't write the article, you'll have to direct your questions to someone who can answer them.

Amy has a sick psychological need to be dominated and controlled. When you think of it, in the Latin culture, males are dominant. Machismo rules.
She obviously feels she needs stronger domination than her culture provides, therefore: Islam.
Where females are completely subservient property of males.
When you think of it, Islam is the most extreme form of masochism and sadism. Not too far removed from the sickos who need to be beaten, degraded and sometimes even killed for the sexual or psychological 'high' it gives them.
In private, we call it pathological aberrance.
In public we call it a 'religion'- Islam.

You forgot the </ sarcasm> tag.

Either that, or you know nothing about latin women. If anything can bring down Islam, it's the latina.

I wasn't being sarcastic. And I wasn't generalizing about Latina women. I was talking about the 'sick' ones like Amy, because ANY woman- particularly one who can handle macho Latin men- who CHOOSES to be degraded, subservient and dehumanized, has some serious mental issues.
What other reason can there be for an 'infidel' woman to be attracted to Islam?
For a man, Islam is power. Makes sense that sadistic, anti-social men would find a home there- but women? For women Islam is slavery and ownership and dehumanization.
It is only SICK women who see that as good.

For this Amy person to have come from a strong, independent culture ,then go to the opposite extreme, makes her, at the least ,severely disturbed- at the most a self-loathing masochist with a death wish.

NO offense intended. That is the stereotypical view, I admit.
But you are generalizing Latin females too, when you say they could give Islam trouble, aren't you?

That particular abomination is not specific to Islam, but rather to a part of the world. It is practiced nearly universally among Ethiopian Christians.

Let's see your evidence for this. I found nothing to support your statement. Please provide a cite.

Funny how the press keeps wrting about converts to Islam, but has no courage to write stories about people who have left Islam. Or maybe they are so unaware, it doesn't even occur to them.
