"Firstly, I have read claims stating much the opposite."
If you read the material, it requires bi-partisan support for the subpoena and to be held in contempt. Not likely IMO.
"Secondly, did any evil come of it?"
Perhaps not evil, but the Republicans have diminished their ability to take the high road on many issues as a result.
The LA Times has already "exposed" DeLay to be a hypocrite as he removed life support from a family member. Whether the circumstances were the same etc won't matter as much as the ability of some to make him look bad. It won't stop there either.
IF, Congress can't make a case for the validity of their subpoena or can't find the support and will to follow through on the Contempt charge, they've cheapened their image as a force to be held accountable to.

"The LA Times has already "exposed" DeLay to be a hypocrite as he removed life support from a family member" Delay's father, and elderly man much older than Terri is now, was dying, at the end of his life and was on a VENTILATOR, none of which was true in Terri's case. The VENTILATOR, which unlike the ORDINARY MEANS of a feeding tube is EXTRAORDINARY MEANS and was removed. NO hypocrisy there.
BTW, few people on FR TRUST either the reporting or the JUDGMENT of the LA times, part of the MSM.
By NOT following through on the subpoena Congress has lessened their image as a force to be reckoned with, that is true. The same is true of Governor Jeb Bush and the President who backed down and did NOT take a TOUGH stand against tyrannical Judges.
By far the most damaging precedent set in this case, is the illegal decision by Judge Greer to STARVE and DEHYDRATE Terri Schiavo to death and the refusal of the courts to abide by the directives of congress to take a fresh look at it, thereby upholding Judge Greer's erroneous and UNCONSTITUTIONAL decision.
Be careful of your passing comments (which I believe were fabricated in Terri's case). They might be re-resurrected to do you in twenty years from now.

I think you missed the point. I know the circumstances regarding DeLay's situtation. The point is he set himself up for, appearences, if nothing else as a hypocrite.
Whether it's valid or fair won't matter. Distrusting the MSN doesn't make it go away....unfortunatly.

I think you missed the point. I don't agree. The media can make anyone appear to be a hypocrite. We shouldn't allow that reality to silence us.
There is a story similar to Mr. Delay's, written about Mr. Schindler today.

I wrote -"Clinton-Appointed Judges created this monster."
Ben Chad writes "Think again. Judge Greer was elected under the banner of the GOP just this last year."
What's the angle here? Is BC correct?

So then you agree. That's what the media did which is all I said. It's not about being silenced it's about what people will perceive.....rightly or wrongly.

Look beyond Judge Greer. He's just an egotistical liberal RINO. The main culprit in the Schiavo case is the term "judicial independence" which is no where to be found in the Constitution. At the time, the framers of the Constitution made a hard sell (fedralist papers, Publius) to the American people, that unlike in England, we, the small person would be forever protected from tyranny. Moreover, the judiciary would be the lesser evil of the three branches. At the same time, John Yates wrote about the pratfalls of the controls over the judiciary within the Constitution that would eventually lead to judicial tyranny. He was right. The courts exert control over the congress and executive branch. Who controls the courts? The democrats like judicial activism, because when they can't win elections, or congressional bills, they shop for and win with one of their liberal judges. The American Bar Association (lawyers) are large contributors to the Democratic Party. Most, if not all judges, are lawyers!!!
Read John Yates (BRUTUS) warning Americans about parts of the Constitution in the anti federalist papers #78-79, 60, 81, and 82...that have come to pass.

Cal would have done well to: Include Romans 12:20 (just before Romans 13, that he draws his article from), and also explain WHY the congregation should submit to earthly authority.
Submission to authority, without adequate justification, is not satisfying at all.

If the congress backs down on this, their through.
If they stiffen up and apply the Constitution, we as a country may have a chance to survive judicial tyranny. For the last five years I've been dealing with federal judges, and I can write horror stories to attest to their BS.

Thomas is upset (and rightly so, I'd imagine) because circumstances are threatening so force him to choose between his practical respect for the law and the tenets of his belief system. It's the same thing I'd imagine has been giving Jeb Bush fits these past few weeks. No one really wants to face the contradiction, because it means an end to a way of life that required nothing of us. A fair reading of Romans 12 & 13 confirms this as well. We are to follow God's law, "love one another" - "Be not conformed to this world, " etc. And yet, we are commanded to respect the social insitutions, to render tribute, custom, fear and honor where they are due.
