Just listening to Rush and a special report came over the radio and the reporter said that Pope may be given a feeding tube.
Terri's feeding tube was inserted when she was first brought in to the hospital in 1990. Michael had nothing to do with it.
That just shows you don't understand the dogma. It's not because birth control is "artificial", it's because sex should not be divorced from procreation. Thus the only allowable birth control is abstinence. It's also a violation of the Biblical command to go forth and multiply.
Not that I agree, I believe we've more than satisfied that command. I also believe that sex, in humans, is about a lot more than simple procreation. It's also about maintaining the bonds of marriage in the nuclear family in which to raise children.
The Ford Foundation too, IIRC.
WOW, it is an amazing coincidence. GOOD thing the pope spoke out in favor of them, and explained the Church's stance on the issue.
Terri is 41, she was 26 when all this started.
If true, the local Bishop is lucky that the pope is feeling poorly these days.
The Church has long allowed the 'rhythm method' of birth control.
Tell that to the Poles. Lech Welensa(sic) doesn't live in Italy either, but the Soviets found out how many divisions the Pope had.
They have the option, it's not exactly a "moral right" but you cannot force a person to eat.
Even where you don't have a person like Terri who clearly wishes to live and refuses to die, one must err on the side of providing sustenance.
Christians look to Christ for guidance in this instance:
And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty. And all nations shall be gathered together before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left. Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in: Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me. Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and covered thee? Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee? And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me. Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink. I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me. Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me. And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting. |
Prayers up for the Pope.
Well yes, but that is a form of abstinence is it not?
So the statement that sex is ONLY for procreation does not measure up.
Thank you for your correction. I wrote in haste, and I'll see if the moderator can remove that post.
=== Michael had nothing to do with it.
Absolutely he had something to do with it. It was under his orders that she was barred from taking food or drink by mouth and restricted solely to the tube for feeding.
Get your facts straight. None of this had to happen. In fact, if Michael still stood by his sworn testimony and that of his hired guns in the malpractice suit instead of opting to kill her based on belatedly recalled hearsay, there would be no question of Terri's being a burden.
For all we know, she might have been eating solid food and forming actual words by now had her husband not elected to shut her in a closet and use her rehab funds on finding an attorney who'd win his right to starve her to death.
=== So the statement that sex is ONLY for procreation does not measure up.
It's always annoying to listen to those ignorant of Catholic teaching presume to debate whatever dwarf opponent they've fashioned for themselves.
The Church has always been specific about the fact that sex is, by its nature, unitive AND procreative.
Because it is unitive and the physical expression of the utterly selfless and total giving of one's self in Holy Matrimony, birth control is illicit on the grounds it withholds a person's true potency and thereby negates the unitive nature of sex.
"...WOW. God is speaking to us...."
Yeah, but are we listening? If not, we need to. So many prayers for so many.
Hey, no problem. You really made me feel like a dweeb. I'm sorry I ever put that up here. I think I'll retreat into some prayer and contemplation of Easter week now...
Like the German Catholic priest who sacrified himself in the concentration camp by replacing a Jewish man who had been condemned to starve to death, he should/could consider refusing this tube in his own hunger strike against Terrri's agonizing weeks-long murder.
