Imagine how freaky it will be if Pope Jonn Paul II, the great moral leader of the last half of the last century, has a feeding tube inserted at about the same moment Terri goes home to God!!

William Buckley, Jr. wrote an article stating just that fact and had the support of many here on FR.

Mr. Buckley, being no spring chicken himself, should reconsider his stance on forced retirement of the aged.

At first I thought it was a joke....then I realized it was true. But they will be able to spin it as CHOICE.

"It would be ironic if the Pope had been calling for the REMOVAL of Terri's tube."

Yours is the better example. I apologize - I just can't help but insult Moronis Morrislut at every available opportunity.

I am glad I have a living will. What a complicated mess all of this has become. The more medical technology we develop then the more complicated it will be. Not that a feeding tube is "complicated" in itself.

Hopefully he'll get the feeding tube experience into his next book! No doubt he'd have a thing or two to say about it!

I heard Michael Schiavo say that the Pope told him he would not want to be kept alive by a feeding tube.

Mind you, I'm really not trying to be a smart ass here, but wouldn't it be symbolic if the Pope, Rev. Falwell, and Terri all meet the Lord on the same day...

The liberals and MSM would be dancing in the streets if that were to happen. 3 less Christians they have to worry about or 3 more in heven and amoung their Lord and Savior.

Did he mention that casually while watching a movie?

Think of it like this, an 80 something (?) man - who's lead a full life is afforded a FT to extend his life while a 30 something (?) female is being denied a right to life by denying her the same treatment.

So, you think they'll leave it in for 15 years?

Yea, wouldn't that be criminal....feeding somebody for 15 years, the most basic of care.

I always wondered why the Germans did not stand against the nazi's, Thanks to you and several others I now understand.

Careful there friend, you are wading into quality of life arguments. But you are precisely right in doing so. In many very similar situations to Terri, Catholic morality does call for judgment based on circumstances of life. A young parent with children whom he or she can still interact with and guide could hardly have him or herself taken off a feeding tube or not have one started. OTOH, I believe an elderly person under different "extenuating circumstances" could refuse food and water through a tube.

What's up with the Reverend Falwell? Of course, it wouldn't get nearly the same air time with the media shills.

I'll say, the Pope SHOULD NOT get a feeding tube. A belief in the continued dogma re: artificial birth control should preclude non-flesh, blood, bone, et. al. devices to extend life.

I blame Howie Carr and his "death pool" for inspiring that last comment!
