Taliban Surrenders Turn Into a Stampede (ignored by professional liars at NY Times, Boston Globe)

March 29, 2005: The U.S. is spending $83 to upgrade two of the 14 airbases it uses in Afghanistan. The main base, Bagram, north of the capital, and Kandahar, in the south, will get most of the money. Shindand air base, near the Iranian border, is being turned over to NATO forces that are taking over in western Afghanistan. About 150 American warplanes operate inside Afghanistan, plus some heavy bombers (B-52s and B-1s) that fly in from Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

March 26, 2005: More Taliban are surrendering, and the government expects about a thousand to openly turn in their weapons and accept an amnesty. These surrenders also provide information on Taliban who are not surrendering. As a result of this, the government is turning more of its attention, and guns, to the drug gangs.

March 25, 2005: For American soldiers died south of the capital when their vehicle hit an anti-tank mine. The Taliban took credit, but it appeared that the mine was left over from the 1980s. Thousands of these mines litter the countryside, and each Spring, the melting snow causes mud and floods that move some of these mines around. The Taliban claim was doubted because the route the Americans took was one that was rarely used, and they had not planned to use it.

March 23, 2005: An increasing number of tips from local villagers along the Pakistan border, has led American troops several Taliban leaders. The resulting firefights left seven dead, including one Taliban leader (Raz Mohammad) and a bomb making workshop . Because the Taliban hide in villages, civilians are often killed in the crossfire...

OK, it may be just me, but $83 doesn't seem like very much to upgrade a 52 ford, let alone several airbases...

Even I could spend $83 on a toilet seat. Maybe not at Home Depot, but easily at the plumber's.

It's because the presient has ordered that illegal immigrants from the U.S. be used in the projects. They will be doing jobs that Americans won't do.
