PINELLAS PARK, Florida (CNN) -- Terri Schiavo's husband has asked that an autopsy be performed on his wife after she dies so that a full report can be done on the extent of her brain damage, an attorney for Michael Schiavo said Monday.
Attorney George Felos said the autopsy will be performed by Dr. Jon Thogmartin, the chief medical examiner of Pinellas County.

Read the law. It is not mandatory; it is discretionary.
"a full report can be done on the extent of her brain damage"
Can a partial autopsy be performed, for instance just a person's brain?
An autopsy should be done on Michael Schiavo to see if he has a heart.
Without FR, I wouldn't know this. Thank you.
Wow! The priest delivering the homily today on EWTN (3/29) is ripping Michael and his supporters a new one.
Broadcast at noon, 6 PM and midnight on streaming audio and video at the EWTN website (ewtn.com).
I heard a dr. say that a brain scan had to be done while she was ALIVE to be able to tell the extent of brain injury...something Michael knows and will never do.
The malpractice money is running out. Felos wants to make sure he gets paid, and there's talk about life insurance with Michael the beneficiary. This whole mess is about money, so what does that say about us as a society?
I don't know about you, but my skin is crawling.
You, me, and the rest of the 'red' counties in these united States of America!!!
My prediction is that Terri's body "mistakenly" gets cremated immediately and Michael is in the clear because he stated that he wanted an autopsy. You think it can't happen? Just wait...
That's true. I did not target the good doctor as being one of the "gang". I simply meant that with all the shady dealings heretofore, it wouldn't surprise me if the Medical Examiner was bought and paid for.
I'm not suspicious of the Doctor, I am suspicious of Michael Schiavo since now he's cornered with having to have an autopsy on Terri, before her body can be given over for cremation.
I certainly hope that the Medical Examiner renders a just disposition on Terri's condition.
<<It is not mandatory -- according to the law. It is discretionary.<<
I thought "shall" means it is required??
An autopsy will be done and a report issued. Will you accept its content?
If not, why not?
"My first thought was that if he's going to let an autopsy happen, the pro-Terri conspiracy theorists will never, ever believe the results if they show that Terri's cortex had indeed been replaced wholly by spinal fluid and thus was not "there" all this time, or if there are no murderous signs."
I admit, that I personally would tend to have doubts. I would prefer that the autopsy be performed (or at least observed) by someone outside the county. Right or wrong, the perception of county personnel is tainted to many, and an unbiased "State" official would be wise.
My Dad died here in Fla 2002. He was cremated. He was sent to the ME but they are so inept and lazy in Duval county that they didnt do an autopsy.
I'm not a ME. Whatever report he issues is not for me to challenge.
Why are you postulating that I would throw conjecture into his findings? It will be what it will be.
I'm not into conspiracies but this case wasn't handled properly from the beginning. There are a lot of people who have a lot riding on this case fading away.If they ever proved that Terri was assaulted at the time of her injury it would ruin the lives of a lot of people. It would mean that the people in the judicial system helped and contributed to the murder of an innocent woman. There are a number of people in this case besides the husband who don't want to see any new evidence found in this case.
What about the M.E. that did the Post Mortem/ Autopsy on Terri Shivo. Was this person on the board of the Hospice like Judge Greer, the Sheriff, her husbands lawyer and God knows who else? How independent was this from an agenda driven result. Never heard. Can anyone trust this?
