(Vanity) Navy Nuclear Power School Graduation

Friday March 18 was a bitterly cold day in Charleston whence I had traveled to the ceremonies attending the graduation of almost 300 new Navy Nuclear Engineers from the Navy Nuclear Power Command Training school. This event was held out doors where a crowd of parents, family and friends watched our sons and daughters received their certificates marking the end of a grueling and intellectually challenging course of study which will enable the men to be assigned to the Submarines and Carriers defending our freedom across the globe. Female graduates will be performing their duties upon the air craft carriers and surface ships.

One of the graduates was my son, Arlen, who also sang in a quartet our National Anthem. His mother would have been brimming with pride as well.

These young sailors raised a great flame of pride, love and hope for the future in my heart and those of others there. Our Navy will be in good hands while our nation produces young citizens like these.

After graduation most transferred to Ballston Spa in New York's beautiful Hudson River Valley where they will be assigned to prototype training working on actual reactors.

Hats off to these sailors.

Congratulations to you and your son! My nephew graduated from there, put in some time at Ballston Spa and is now aboard the USS Nimitz. God bless our fine young men and women!

Congrats to your son ... and be sure to remind him that there are thousands of Freepers who thank him for his service.

But subs are special to me ... I served on them as a Nuc trained officer. (I was in the last Nuc School class at Bainbridge, MD, which shutdown when the school was moved to Orlando for about 10+ years before it shutdown and moved to Charleston, SC.).

I have a son at USNA, and his dream is to go to Nuc School and become a Sub Officer.

Take care

Mike

Congrats!

I work for a (civilian) nuclear power service company. We have several ex-Navy nuclear engineers here. They are some of the most valuable engineers we have.

If and when your son leaves the Navy, he will easily find work in the nuclear industry. This is engineering that cannot be outsourced to India.

Hopefully we can change that should we decide to focus our attention on important matters.

Yeah but he is such a honky that he is better in groups. Lovely voice but that boy's sense of rhythm sucks. LoL.
But it was very nice to hear him singing the Messiah in the shower when his high school chorus performed it.

Thank you and Congratulations to you and yours as well. When Arlen graduated Basic last year I picked him and five of his buddies up for some R&R. We went back to my house and had lunch then went to see The Return of the King. It was an outstanding day. None of his buddies became nukes though.

Some of the teenage girls were dressed like uh...teenage girls and didn't even have coat or long sleeves. Fortunately, there was a table set up selling sweat shirts and souvenirs.
