I would just caution you to be mindful of the long-term consequences of what you're asking the President and his brother to do.

Stop an innocent disabled woman from being tortured to death slowly?

I already posted that Jeb could have probably gotten away with a clear abuse of power without impeachment much less conviction which requires a two thirds vote of the state senate I would assume, if he so chose, particularly given the composition of the state legislature. He could have grasped the golden ring, symbolizing the corruption of power. It would have destroyed his reputation, and probably him in my view, but he could have done so. But he chose not to dishonor his oath of office. He made a decision, the right decision, the only decision he could make, as an honorable man, in my view. You may disagree. The point in the future though is to try to improve the law. This matter is now water under the bridge, however much we might passionately disagree.

yes, and the flip side is the unintented consequences of letting an innocent woman died at the hands of an evil court.

They just showed a feature on the local news about Terri Schaivo, complete with video of her, awake and blinking her eyes, and smiling and appearing responsive. My 13-year-old son asked me what was the deal? I told him that the woman's husband wanted to kill her and the judge and the courts said, "Sure, go ahead. We'll make sure it happens." My son just laughed like I was joking. I then also explained that the Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, didn't have the guts to do anything about it because he was afraid to make a county probate judge angry. My son is very confused about all this and all I could tell him was, "It's sick out there and getting sicker."

THAT VIDEO IS SEVERAL YEARS OLD...get a grip!

I was referring to your asking them to step outside what their own attorneys are telling them are the legal boundaries of their authority.

I realize that you know that already, but I felt compelled to answer your rhetorical question anyway. I'm not sure why.

I'm not happy about that either, jpsb - but if there is no legal solution to what is happening, that is a signal that the law needs to be changed, not broken.

WHY DOES THAT MATTER? So it's old so what. She has been doing the same thing for years. SHE ISN'T PVS OR IN A COMA OR BRAIN DEAD!! That's what it shows, like it or not.

No, the point in the future will remain whether an executive can legally wield his power despite whatever judicial proclamations exist. While no court or legislative body will ever pass on the issue of whether Jeb could legally have saved Terri's life because he has not done so, I'm not sold that he could not have legally wielded his authority to do so.

I haven't formed an opinion on his actions, from a political perspective, but I cannot swallow that the best legal minds available couldn't make a convincing argument that he does have the legal authority to save Terri's life pending further judicial review de novo or otherwise.

Once Terry dies, nothing will bring her back, and the damnage to the nation will be done. One thing is for sure, the GOP base is split, not good news for GOP in 06 or 08. Should the split be sever, Bush's poll number will drop big time (I think they are dropping already) an he will lose his ability to move his agenda. GOP up for reelection will run away from Bush hoping not to be painted by the same brush. Nothing good will come out of this and it very well might cause the GOP government to fall.

It's not a matter of breaking a "law" it's a matter of breaking an illegal court judgment which purports that the governor may not enforce the law. It's a matter of breaking out of "courtocracy." The governor does not evade accountability by doing this -- he remains accountable to the legislature which can choose to impeach and remove him from office. Or it can decline to do so.

that would be the best outcome, but the GOP has to fall from power first.

They can't convince the COURTS. Big hairy deal! This is about falling back on a different "court" -- the legislature.

Seems it was all sort of a gray area for Jeb. Could he or couldn't he? There was sure plenty opinions ranging far and wide on the matter from lots of legal experts just a week ago. But Jeb apparently chose not to risk erring on the side of life. I suspect that that decision will haunt him for the rest of his life.

The fact is an innocent disabled woman is being tortured to death slowly by the government.

I hope I'm there to see bush explain to G-d, Creator of the Universe, about the nuances of "legal boundaries" and "limits of authority."

If you think the people of this nation are mad at bush, imagine what G-d has in store.

There will be hell to pay for this.

Wrote this on another thread. Still feel this way. Betrayed. My nation betrayed.

Bush (hell, BOTH Bushes) is/are more of the same all-Yale-all-the-time East Coast elite. He tossed us just enough in the way of bread and circuses, knowing we were so starved for anything even remotely resembling conservative leadership after 8 years in Clinton hell to get himself re-elected. Now we will see the true heart of this phony Christian Republican revealed. Essentially erase the boarder. Vilify true patriots for daring to stand up to the criminally negligent government. Pull his forelock inf ront of a tyrannical judiciary and expect us to do the same. Am I the only one worried by how much time old man Bush and the impeached former occupant of the oral office are seen together? Does Hillary have something on the Shrubs? 700 plus files (some say as many as 900) were in Billary's possession and I guarantee they have heard of Xerox machines. Has a deal been cut between the Shrubs/Toon's? Is all hell going to break loose if Bruno doesn't receive the Presidency as is her due? Stay tuned. Something IS going on here, people. We're being lied to on all sides and being driven.
