Liberal Abrams Report started a piece today saying, "Is it time to give parents rights over spouse rights? I say no way."
An older and weaker looking Rev. Robert Schuller sat there via distance camera, looking very somber. "I think you've asked the wrong question."
Abrams scoffed, and smileless Schuller answered, "We have to be intelligent. We don't make an arbitarary statements [like you just did] without qualifictions. We don't just say yes this way or no that way,[as you are doing]; that's not intelligent."
Abrams changed the subject, starting about Terri's husband, and Schuller interrupted: "I can't understand why Michael Schiavo still calls himself a 'husband.' He has been with another woman since 1996 with two children. I do not think he has the love."
Abrams got miffed. Schuller sternly and quickly replied to him, "I did not ask to be on your program. You called me." Abrahms glibly agreed, claiming Schuller's opinion was important and that is why he asked him on.
Schuller continued somberly, "There are three kinds of love: Self-centered, which says 'I love you because I want you.' There is Self-serving love which says 'I love you because I need you.' And then there is self-giving love which says 'I love you because you need me.' We hope that the laws [in our country] will allow people to be receptive to self-giving love. "You can't just say that 'because this is the spouse...' I think you asked the wrong question, framing it as parents over spouse."
Schuller was calmly heated. With seeming great sincerity and anger, Schuller said, "I have never written ANYTHING more important in ALL my books than THIS chapter [about the need for self-giving love]." [Emphasis his].
At which point you hear laughs from Abrams, who attackingly says, "What you're saying now might this fall under self- serving love," gleefully insisting that nothing Schuller was saying could be true, since Schuller wrote it in book and gets money for the book.
They showed a graphic of Schuller's book, "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow," with Schuller's calling out angrily in frustration saying that with what is happening in the Schiavo case, "We are throwing away our future!" and "This is exactly what is happening!"
Abrams quickly closed with "I love my parents, but would never want them to have the final say over my spouse."
I will never watch Abrams again. If I happen to see him, I will change the channel.
I do not know if he is good or bad; however, I have watched him and would agree that he is objectively myopic and focused on primarily logic and legality. Filled with himself and his law he misses the big picture and as such is lost and contributes to leading others away from absolute truths he has yet to discover and embrace...
Stop trying to defend a murder in process. Stop defending those merciless co-conspiritors. According to God's law, since you're so keen on wanting to be able to clearly state the law, anyone is defined as being guilty if you do not defend those in need, if you are not merciful AS HE is merciful to you.
Schuler is on the right side.
"The Evangelical church I used to go to made Schuller out like he was the Anti-Christ. A lot of people from this church protested when Schuller came to our campus"
I know. His theology's not great, and I don't want to imply that. But he wasn't that smiley, positive thing. He seemed angered at a non-husband being given the ability to do this to his first wife. Very few seem to make this the issue, and I can't understand why. The courts claim they have nothing to do with him, and are making their decisions not based on him, but he's the core. The evil core.
and we live in a democratic republic and not a theocracy...I don't defend the what you call co-conspirators as much as I defend the rule of law in this country......it is what binds us as a society....the minute you chuck the law.....then who is to say what morals and values we follow?......yours,, mine, Democrats...you see that is why we have to have laws so we don't take them into our own hands.....
"I wouldn't call him [Abrams} a bad man"
God does. God says he "None is righteous, no not one" [Abrams], and says that only when the righteousness of Christ is imputed to a believer in Christ, is he changed from dead in sins to a new creation.
We all are bad. We have a sin nature. Those who refuse God's grace remain choosing their 'badness' and sin. Those who accept Christ's death for their sin, are now able to WANT and choose that which is good. Prior, we only want that which is contrary to God's expressed will.
and that is why I accepted Christ into my heart years and years ago......to be saved......and though God's law would remain supreme, we have to also abide by man's law to live in an ordered society......if not, we would be killing all abortion doctors, all who do not believe as we would have them believe......we let God Judge them, for we can not...we don't have to like them, but vengeance not ours, it is the Lords......
"When he decided to crawl into bed with a woman not his wife, he did forfeit any right to decide her life"
Excellent post!
The silence of the feminists, allowing a woman to be murdered rather than admit that life is good and their abortions are bad, that silence is deafening.
Unable to support loving men, honorable husbands, the feminist claim to care for women is again exposed for its fraudulency.
What if the husband beats the women into a coma can he decide. What a women poisons the man into a coma can she decide. I think should a least be a joint decision or go to an arbiter in worst case. Or if the person just needs a feeding tube.
There is evidence for abuse by Michael. He also fits the psychological profile of an abuser.
I said "Who knows which patients as a nurse MS did this to." Your response? saying "Did anybody die there?"
How would we know? We DO know what MS is doing to Terri NOW. He is murdering her.
Why are you protecting a murderer from having his past revealed?
Why do get outraged over me wondering about his past, when YOU CAN see his PRESENT ACTIONS? Why not get outraged that a woman who still can be rescued if given IV fluids, is being murdered? Why do you have such hatred?
Anytime we defend the guilty, when we hide evidence, when we are not on the side of truth, WE are guilty.
Put your energy towards saving Terri, please.
"Mayor Newsome did the same thing in SF by marring all the gay couples because of "his" moral convictions and we cried foul........whose morality do we follow???????
We follow God's morality. He says it is wrong to murder. He says homosexuality is wrong.
"Am I correct that this is THE Robert Schuller?"
Yep. I don't know if his wrong theology's changed, probably not, but he at least understood "husband" and didn't like the crappy attitude of Abrams.
"So Schuller gets to use Teri to promote his book?"
That's what was strange about it...he didn't seem to be trying to be promoting. He got angry in trying to make the point that what he is saying in this book is very important, that we are throwing away our future in the way we are not truly loving people. I didn't look the book up, or quotes from it. But he seemed like he wanted to make the point that what is happening to Terri is wrong, and that he was trying to help her.
"The new Morse Code for Terri.....
Post Post Post Pray Pray Pray Post Post Post"
Thank you for reminding me.
"the Randall Terry fringe"
I haven't seen him in years. I don't know what his followers have done. But just in hearing him speak, no cuts on TV which I've seen were wrong. He spoke passionately, truthfully, calmly, intelligently, maturely and accurately. I think it's wrong to be disrespectful of him. I see him doing what I wish I could.
Also, he is the Schindler family's choice, and I don't think he's charging them.
"we have to also abide by man's law to live in an ordered society......if not, we would be killing all abortion doctors"
You make the wrong conclusion from your premise. Yes, Scripture encourages us to obey the law of the land. But it also says we are not to murder. If our land is murdering babies because it is obeying the laws, we must follow God's law, and not do the abortions. It does not follow that we should murder the doctors.
Our laws are in the process of murdering Terri Schiavo. We are to fight against these wrong laws and obey God before man.
Good idea.
GS,
I know people who have been abused by control freaks--at least 4 of them. Their lives have never been the same.
Why? Saving Terri may take getting him removed as guardian. That's why.
I had almost had a stroke myself, when I read that line. I never...NEVER had thought of that.
And the worst part is that it is possible....
