Rev. Schuller vs. Abrams Report: His Finest Hour! Against Michael Schiavo, and For Self-Giving Love
MSNBC TV Abrams Report | 3/28/05 | gentlestrength

Posted on 03/28/2005 4:34:13 PM PST by gentlestrength

Liberal Abrams Report started a piece today saying, "Is it time to give parents rights over spouse rights? I say no way."

An older and weaker looking Rev. Robert Schuller sat there via distance camera, looking very somber. "I think you've asked the wrong question."

Abrams scoffed, and smileless Schuller answered, "We have to be intelligent. We don't make an arbitarary statements [like you just did] without qualifictions. We don't just say yes this way or no that way,[as you are doing]; that's not intelligent."

Abrams changed the subject, starting about Terri's husband, and Schuller interrupted: "I can't understand why Michael Schiavo still calls himself a 'husband.' He has been with another woman since 1996 with two children. I do not think he has the love."

Abrams got miffed. Schuller sternly and quickly replied to him, "I did not ask to be on your program. You called me." Abrahms glibly agreed, claiming Schuller's opinion was important and that is why he asked him on.

Schuller continued somberly, "There are three kinds of love: Self-centered, which says 'I love you because I want you.' There is Self-serving love which says 'I love you because I need you.' And then there is self-giving love which says 'I love you because you need me.' We hope that the laws [in our country] will allow people to be receptive to self-giving love. "You can't just say that 'because this is the spouse...' I think you asked the wrong question, framing it as parents over spouse."

Schuller was calmly heated. With seeming great sincerity and anger, Schuller said, "I have never written ANYTHING more important in ALL my books than THIS chapter [about the need for self-giving love]." [Emphasis his].

At which point you hear laughs from Abrams, who attackingly says, "What you're saying now might this fall under self- serving love," gleefully insisting that nothing Schuller was saying could be true, since Schuller wrote it in book and gets money for the book.

They showed a graphic of Schuller's book, "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow," with Schuller's calling out angrily in frustration saying that with what is happening in the Schiavo case, "We are throwing away our future!" and "This is exactly what is happening!"

Abrams quickly closed with "I love my parents, but would never want them to have the final say over my spouse."

Judges are lawyers in dresses. Lower level judges are generally sub par lawyers that can't quite cut it in private practice. So those who defer blindly to judges like Greer are really surrendering their own judgement to the least competent in the professions.

Gentle,

Schuller is right. It should always be a matter of the deepest love. I mean how would King Solomon, in all his wisdom, handle this?

Since Roe v Wade this country has been in serious moral decline. What is happening to Terri and the Schindlers amply reveals how incredibly hollow America and her Constitution have become. You would think a government's most serious responsibility is to protect her people. In America, it appears you would be wrong.

not you......but many here were advocating the Gov to chuck the law and kidnap Terri essentially......and there were some more extreme folk here......couldn't believe it...we don't like the ruling and we think we can circumvent it, but Mayor Newsome did the same thing in SF by marring all the gay couples because of "his" moral convictions and we cried foul........whose morality do we follow???????

When he decided to crawl into bed with a woman not his wife, he did forfeit any right to decide her life.

Schiavo had already had an affair by the time he was suing for malpractice.

Which means he might have been lying under oath when he testified, during the malpractice trial, that he believed in his marriage vows. (Caveat: Perhaps at the moment Michael testified, he had decided to try to be true)

Ok, you win. I must correct my statement and say SOMETIMES mercy is emotional(like a robber who spares me) however, for every base emotion, their is a higher, spiritual meaning (let's say beyond logic). This is the basis of all civil intercourse. It is the basis of all GOOD law.

Last week Larry King had Joni Earickson on and it was great.

As a teenager in the 70's, I had the privilege of meeting Joni after she spoke at a large youth-group meeting in Atlanta. It was just a few years after her accident, and she left a big impression on my life. I was amazed at the way she could paint so beautifully with her teeth!

Am I correct that this is THE Robert Schuller?

Robert Schuller believes in and teaches a gospel of possibilty thinking; we can make our own world and our own dreams by thinking possitive and having faith in ourselves and not the True gospel of the bible. One in which all of mankind are sinners with a need to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus for salvation. Specifically that only Christ's death on the cross pays for one's sin.

Is this the guy with the glass cathedral? Got a show on TV? I never watch him, so I don't know what he preaches. This was an honest inquiry. Thanks for the insight...

I was responding to your own post#47 where you brought the multiple judges decisions. If you can keep track of your own posts perhaps it explains why you seem to have a problem keeping track of the facts in this case.

good for you.....insults are the way to go to influence people.......very good democratic tactic.....and there were mutiple decisions.....if most pundits realize this and the Bush's (called cowards by some) do, I have to trust in them to some extent......how did you feel when "judges" spanked Mayor Newsome for marrying gays because of his "moral" convictions.....you most likely didn't write in to chastise those idiot judges for upholding the law did you????

I responded to your post telling me I was off topic when i indeed addressed your point.
Appellate systems were put in place because there was a recognition very early on that judges make mistakes, very often and ver blatantly.
If you want to read about miscarriages of justice where the errors went all the way to the highest court, read about the Dred Scott case (Dred Scott vs Sanford). It eventually led to the civil war.
I don't listen to the pundits especially those parading on the MSM.
Your comment about Bush is irrelevant to me,as I have not taken a position about the legalities of his taking action.
It would appear that legal experts generally think that his powers are very limited.
That said it does not change his moral dilemma.

well I actually agree with most of what you wrote here...I should have not said pundits and much as the well known Conservative bloggers on the likes of LGF, Instapundit, and Powerline.....I guess this almost got to SCOTUS, only to be turned down......I know mistakes are made and I for one wanted them to go to all lenghts.....what I argued against, mostly on Sat, with you and some others was the lengths some here would go like anarchy to achieve their means....I have no argument with you on other matters.

One of the good legal analysts is Hugh Hewitt and he is saying that this is an absolut miscarriage of justice, while saying thatJB can't do anything about it and that we have to look at changing the judiciary through imposing term limits and perhaps making sure that some of the judges are not lawyers so that common sense can balance legalities.
