PINELLAS PARK, Fla. As Terri Schiavo (search) drew closer to death Saturday, a state judge rejected another attempt by the brain-damaged woman's parents to reconnect her feeding tube, leaving the couple with little hope they could keep her alive.
Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler (search), planned to appeal the ruling to the state Supreme Court later Saturday, family spokesman Gary McCollough said. The high court last week refused to intervene for the Schindlers.

They change their minds?
bump
It's time to start making some arguments based on "ineffective assistance of counsel".
They change their minds?
No they did not. Originally they not to appeal the case in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
I think the Federal appeal had no more hope than the state appeal, and it gave an excuse to delay ruling on the state appeal.
I've never seen anything related to the Florida Supreme Court that would lead me to believe they would be the least bit receptive to an appeal of this kind.
This is BREAKING news. Who is in charge here at Free Republic to put this in the Breaking News section?
The Florida Supreme Court struck down the law that would have had the feeding tube restored.
They are death judges.
They will ignore the evidence that Terri is not in a PVS.
It's like ignorning the 2 ton elephant in the room.
"It's time to say goodbye"--when I thought those words I then thought "How far would I go to save my daughter? When would I say it is over?"
As long as my daughter had breath in her body I would fight.
I am firmly convinced that even if someone came up with a fully legal notarized living will, signed by Terri, stating she wanted to be kept alive in this exact situation- the rulings would still be the same.
Governor Bush, please project yourself forward to that point of Terri's death. Ask yourself, "did I do everything but that final thing that was necessary? Did I pull the arrow from the quiver only to hesitate? Did I listen to my conscience or did I listen to my advisors?"
you arent helping anything, yet again.....
God bless her parents. They will not give up.
The Legal Eagles in this case are playing a game of "Simon Says" with these people. They make rulings, then it leaks out that "if they had said this" or "if they had done that" the ruling "MIGHT" have been different. The ultimate tease. So they didn't file things just right, can't we at least feed and hydrate her while we are all fightng about it? Are any of you out there lawyers in areas where you could help here??? Pro Bono?
I believe the courts are pointless. Greer has the legal authority under the statute to remove the tube. Just go in and give her water and see if she can take it. Greer's order that no one can give her water is illegal on the face of it. The statute only allows Greer to remove "artificially" supplied food and water.
It might take an emergency order or better yet forget the courts and get the Governors office to take marshalls to tell whatever law enforcement is on site to stand down -- the courts do not direct law enforcement, the Governor does -- and let medical doctors try to hydrate her by mouth. Can't Jeb Bush do even this much to give Terri one last chance?
I assume that state judge AP is really referring to is that "county probate" judge.
