Contrary to predictions that Terri Schiavo's starvation death would be painless and dignified, an eyewitness who visited her hospice room early Saturday morning reports that she is now bleeding from the eyes and mouth.
Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" reported Saturday morning:
"Barbara Weller, who's is one of the attorneys for the Schindlers, says that the last time she checked in, not very many hours ago, Terri's eyes and tongue were bleeding now.
"Her eyes are sunken and her skin continues to flake off," Weller added.
On Thursday Terri's parents reported that their daughter now resembles "an Auschwitz victim."
At the request of Michael Schiavo's attorney, Judge George Greer has banned cameras and video equipment from her room, precluding the possibility that a photographic record of her deteriorating condition might be kept.
The eyewitness accounts stand in stark contrast to predictions from medical experts cited in numerous media reports who insisted that Terri's starvation death would not be gruesome.
On Wednesday, for instance, the Los Angles Times reported:
"Doctors say that going without food and water in the last weeks of life is not traumatic, and that the body is equipped to adjust to such conditions."
The paper quoted Dr. Perry G. Fine, vice president of medical affairs at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in Arlington, Va.
I also wish to comment that I have seen many many friends and relatives suffer with and/or die from cancer. I do not know of one who refused medication to alleviate their pain throughout their battle or during their last days. Those are my personal observations only. I would assume that the case of a patient dying with cancer and having no pain whatsoever is not the most common experience among those who die with this disease.
The more I think about this, the more I think my father may have actually died of dehydration. He was a terminal cancer patient and we took care of him at his home, with oversight by a hospice nurse. He couldn't take food or water and became comatose. As the days went by, we swabbed his mouth with glycerin water to keep it from becoming cracked and dry. His skin was extremely dry. He died as peacefully as a person can. He did not bleed out of any orifice.
Do you seriously think we are getting the truth from the Schindlers? I don't.
If cameras were allowed in that room I strongly suspect that even (the majority of) those who are in favor of starving her to death would be horrified into a change of opinion.
There are witnesses other than the family, like the lawyer who is quoted in this article.
If I buy that a family member wouldn't or couldn't do this contemperaneously, I still believe the family would almost certainly support release of real pics (what do you think they've been doing at terrisfight.org all these years?).
So I can't see a substantive argument against some other witness assisting in a compter rendering.
Question for FReeper docs again: Can she recover at this point?
Even if they put the feeding tubes back in, this whole ordeal of starvation / dehydration will probably be played out again at her expense.
Oh, but she's in a permanent vegetative state, so I guess THAT doesn't even matter.
I'd love to take these doctors and judges, lock them in a room with no food or water and see how freakin' euphoric they feel after a week.
May God have mercy on all of those who could have stopped this murder and didn't. Even tho I can not watch anymore- I am praying as hard as ever.
I can not descend down this tunnel of darkness which has been brought to bear upon us.
I am heartsick- but I will not forget any of this-ever.
Please forgive while I look away. I am so sorry. I am so weak.
It's against the Catholic religion to have the ashes scattered. They have to be interred.
Not that MS would care.
I thought I read they were going to inter her ashes in a MS family plot in PA, not scatter them.
BTW, he's adding more misery to the parents by sending her so far away.
My husband visits our son's grave site all the time.
My friend, who lost his Firefighter son on 9/11, visits his 2x a day.
Diva Betsy Ross,We kneel by her bedside.
He couldn't see it - Judge Greer is legally blind!
Heartbreaking. This post speaks volumes--for those whose eyes are open.
True. Even Fox News slanted against Terry, so the GOP has backed off. Gotta win...it's more impotent than Terri.
No, we better ask two certified pathological liars (MS+Felos) instead. /extreme sarcasm
The ACLU is on Michael's side.
Yeah, but then we would have lived in a country where the disabled, inconvenient, as they are, would have been starved and dehydrated to death.
