Terri Bleeding From Eyes and Mouth

Contrary to predictions that Terri Schiavo's starvation death would be painless and dignified, an eyewitness who visited her hospice room early Saturday morning reports that she is now bleeding from the eyes and mouth.

Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" reported Saturday morning:

"Barbara Weller, who's is one of the attorneys for the Schindlers, says that the last time she checked in, not very many hours ago, Terri's eyes and tongue were bleeding now.

"Her eyes are sunken and her skin continues to flake off," Weller added.

On Thursday Terri's parents reported that their daughter now resembles "an Auschwitz victim."

At the request of Michael Schiavo's attorney, Judge George Greer has banned cameras and video equipment from her room, precluding the possibility that a photographic record of her deteriorating condition might be kept.

The eyewitness accounts stand in stark contrast to predictions from medical experts cited in numerous media reports who insisted that Terri's starvation death would not be gruesome.

On Wednesday, for instance, the Los Angles Times reported:

"Doctors say that going without food and water in the last weeks of life is not traumatic, and that the body is equipped to adjust to such conditions."

The paper quoted Dr. Perry G. Fine, vice president of medical affairs at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in Arlington, Va.

Has anyone realized that this case is not about life or death? Its about custody. It may not be what everyone wants, but her custody belongs to creepy Michael Schiavo. And just because the parents do not like the decision he has come to regarding his wife, which supposedly was her decision years ago, it is not up to them to decide what happens with her.

Thousands of feeding tubes are removed every day, but we don't see this kind of circus for each one of those now, do we? So most of you believe that Jeb should intervene? Does he intervene with the hundreds in his state every day?

Now I agree that Michael appears to be scumbag. And I believe that Terri should have had some sort of rehabilitation, but honestly, we all don't know the truth.

We live in Tampa, and have heard about this struggle every day for years. In fact, the St. Pete times posted an article yesterday that they printed in 1990. Terri had a brain stimulator implanted, and they were trying rehabilitation. Who knows, maybe they did determine that there was nothing they can do.

I'm just saying, that it seems that there are so many people on both extremes. The truth is that none of us have any idea what is going on. None of us have been inside that hospice room. None of us have met Michael Schiavo or the Schindlers. Its everyone's word against everyone elses.

What is important, is that YOU fill out a living will to determine how you want to be taken care of in your last days. If Terri would have had this, maybe we would have not been going through this. But the problem here is that Micheal claims that this is what Terri wanted. We don't know this for sure, but would you want someone in your family fighting to the end trying to disregard your wishes just because they didn't think that that was the right choice?

We'll never know the truth of what happened. And I don't want to see someone die without food or water if that was not their wishes. But we just don't know. And legally, that is what the courts are supposed to follow.

I don't know, with the minaturization of electronics, I wouldn't be surprised. It needs to be wireless though although a digital recording ability would be nice.

In 1832, two convicted murders were publicly hanged in England. After the hanging the bodies were placed inside iron cages specially fitted to their forms, and placed on gibbets, posts with arms extending from the top from which the iron cages were suspended. The bodies were left to rot in full public view as a warning to other would-be malefactors. These were the last two such executions carried out in England, for "hanging in irons" was considered too ghastly a form a punishment even in those coarse days.

But this form of punishment had already been civilized considerably over the way it had been practiced in medieval England. As originally practiced, "hanging in irons" was done to a live body without the compassionate benefit of a prior neck-hanging.

After a criminal had been convicted and sentenced to death he was delivered in manacles to a blacksmith who proceeded to measure the condemned man's body and to beat the fitted iron bands into a form-fitting cage. It is said that even the most callous and unemotional criminals would break into sobs as they were being fitted for irons. Often they would beg to be killed immediately rather than be subjected to the ordeal that was about to commence.

Having been secured within the iron cage the criminal was taken to a public place and suspended from the arm of the gibbet. Then, they were simply left alone without food or water, to die from dehydration and thirst.

The dreadful spectacle of seeing and hearing a live man die slowly over several days from being deprived of water and food was certainly jarring and discomforting. Indeed it was so much so, that the law was changed to require a quick and merciful death by neck-hanging prior to placing the body in irons.

"Hanging in irons" was one of the manners of death that the founding fathers had in mind when they amended the Constitution to prohibit "cruel and unusual punishment." Today, the most vile and unrepentant serial sociopathic murderer on death row is assured of never having to face such a hideous, cruel, and painful end.

It is the this form of "painless, compassionate" death by starvation and dehydration that Judge Greer, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and United States Supreme Court has condemned an innocent woman, Terri Schiavo, to suffer during this Easter season.

The ACLU came out on Michael's side for the right to kill unwanted spouses. Human Services (Department of Families and Children) tried to help, but an insider tipped off Greer ahead of time and he issued a restraining order against them interfering. Advocacy groups for the handicapped are making some statements, but only a handful of protestors at the hospice are from these groups. Women's rights. Are you kidding??? This is about protecting abortion, too! Saving Terri means an innocent life is precious and worth protecting. They wouldn't touch this with a ten-foot pole. Meanwhile....
