Police have canceled an Amber Alert after finding a body in rural Johnson County. A positive identification of the body has not been made.

The Alert had been issued after ten-year-old Jetseta Gage disappeared from her Cedar Rapids home on Thursday night.

Police located 37-year-old Roger Paul Bentley in Johnson County this morning. He is in custody but has not been charged.

Jetsetta's mother Trena Gage says the Bently was a family friend who worked on her car occassionally. He was at the home from about noon until eight and Gage says her son saw the 10-year-old get into Bentley's truck. She told TV9, "My son said he saw my daughter in the truck...she has permission because because we've known him so long. I got back at 8:30 and she was gone."

"I'm distraught. I'm just praying," Trena told the Cedar Rapids Gazette. "I just want her home."

Jetseta, who is mentally challenged, is a white 10-year-old, stands 4 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 90 pounds. Again, she was last seen wearing an orange coat and purple pants.

The suspect Roger Bently is listed on the Iowa Sex Offenders Registry for a 1994 Buchanan County conviction involving a white female under age 13.

Arrest the parents for Child Neglect. If you are going to be so irresponsible as to let a sex offender that much contact with your child you are guilty as well.

Oh, it's worse than that. The mother dated the guy's BROTHER for a year - he is now in jail awaiting trial for sexually molesting the same daughter! So then, the mother remains friends with the pervert's brother, who is a convicted molester - and HE abducts and kills her. The mother claims she did not know he was on the registry.

The situation is disgusting. The little girl is in a special school for kids who are too behaviorally or emotionally disturbed to attend regular classrooms. Any bet this sexual abuse is an ongoing thing? You just have to wonder what all has been going on in this home.

While I agree with you that these vile animals should be permanently removed from society, I wonder how we can draw the line on what constitutes a sexual offense worthy of capital punishment?

Should "sexual offense" be defined as "kidnap and rape" of a child? "Kidnap and rape" of anyone at any age? "Rape" of a child? "Rape" of anyone at any age? "Date rape"? "Statutory rape"? "Consensual Sex" that gets rough or turns violent? "Indecent exposure" to a minor? "Indecent exposure" to an adult? What about "Rape" within a marriage?

This is a real freaky case. I hate these crimes against children - they make me sick, and my heart simply breaks. And this one is really disgusting because the mother does not seem to have any sense at all.

The mom dated the brother of the new perp. That guy molested her daughter (last year?) and he is in prison waiting trial for that. And now his brother, who also has a record for sex offenses,(that Mom supposedly did not know about?) has taken the girl and she is (we assume) dead.

I hate to say this, but it appears these guys had their kicks with the wrong female. They should have stuck to the mother. I don't think any of us would mind if she was missing here. That poor child, what an environment.

Nothing against physically punishing these monsters--but I've heard it probably wouldn't work; if the urge is still there psychologically, the pervert would just use some other instrument to control and sexually abuse the victim.

Now, I reposted the question for you, since you obviously missed it. The question is, do you believe that the penalties in these cases, fit the crime? It is a very simple question. Do you believe that these satanic child molesting vermin receive the proper penalties for their crimes?

I'm with you 100% on that. I have an eight year old daughter and I cannot even let her play in the back yard without one of us being out there.

No. Clearly the courts are too lenient. They demand discretionary sentencing, then offer up minimal sentences and probation options to dangerous criminals. The courts are out of control.

The only way they would know is if he had told them(probably not) or if they had been told by an officer in the area (probably not) or if they had attempted the often complex process (for many) of locating these guys on the web.

Then there are registered sex offenders who just use other names...amd get their names changed along with that!

The only way to guard our children from these heinous inhumans is to do away with them. As time goes by, child pederasty is becoming more and more normalized as one can gauge from psychiatric journals and research.

This scum does not even appear on the Iowa website for offenders. This is what the site says:

As well, have you ever lived in the ghetto or barrio? Where not only do you observe halfway houses (1 of many sexual offender havens) and crack heads running into cars but where you have to fend them off when they break into your home and pester you on the streets.

I gave that illustration and question because I've lived there. As well, because I now live in Montgomery County MD (i.e. Bethesda, Rockville MD) and most of the people I encounter are just like you. Although they are liberals they still exude this pro-criminal crap.

They walk around here in peaceful settings and have never encountered a truly hardened criminal.

Roger P. Bentley makes an initial appearance by video from the Linn County Jail Saturday on a child stealing charge.


CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - A disheveled Roger P. Bentley made an initial appearance this morning in Linn County Court via video from the Linn County Jail on a charge of child stealing, a Class C felony.

Bentley, 37, of Brandon, is being held in lieu of $1 million cash-only bail in connection with the disappearance of 10-year-old Jetseta Marrie Gage.

The girl disappeared from her home at 448 Jacolyn Dr. NW Thursday night. A statewide Amber Alert -- the notice of a missing child -- was issued shortly before midnight and was canceled at about 2 p.m. Friday after a body was found in rural Johnson County and Bentley was in custody.

The investigation in Linn and Johnson counties is ongoing and additional charges are being filed, Linn County Assistant Attorney Jerry Vander Sanden said Saturday.
