was absolutely astounded yesterday when Florida Governor Jeb Bush held that press conference and talked about the State of Florida taking custody of Terri Schiavo. He presented to the media the opinion of a doctor that Terri Schiavo was not in a persistent vegetative state .. but rather just in some sort of a period of reduced consciousness. This doctor has never seen Terri Schiavo, except on videotape, and he's issuing findings that are completely at odds with doctors who have been personally examining Terri for many months.
Think about this for a moment. Attending physicians conduct their examinations and make their reports. The matter moves into the courts and is adjudicated ... adjudicated extensively. Nineteen state judges, one Federal District Court judge, one Court of Appeals, and three now four trips to the U.S. Supreme Court. Still, politicians aren't happy with the results ... so now the State contemplates using its police power to seize the body of Terri Schiavo so that she can be forced to endure this horrible existence for years to come.
Across America there are thousands of families who have faced similar situations and made their difficult decisions without political interference. There are tens of millions more who have expressed their wishes, both in writing and in words, that they never be kept alive in this manner. Now these people are watching this hideous spectacle of politicians plotting the literal kidnapping of Terri Schiavo. And why? To please a powerful political constituency .. the ant-abortion lobby.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that there are many people out there who, when faced with medical disaster, want to be turned over to politicians to be used as political pawns. I'm wondering if these people will be anxious to keep Republicans in power.
It isn't the 2 party system that's FUBAR - it's the Federal system in general. They have forgotten where it is that their authority comes from - "We The People". They have forgotten that it is "We The People" who are their employers as well as the source of their paychecks. They have become so used to being above the law, and so drunk with power that they have lost their grip on reality.
It is becoming past time for an "attitude adjustment" for our Federal system.
Since you just joined today, maybe you lefties should worry about damage control. I see the Senate, that bastion of right wing, voted unanamously to intervene. The professional pols know this issue is a loser. Who wants to be tarred as the party of death?
Some slick lawyer and a judge like Greer, and you'll be laying there in beds in a hospice sucking juice and waiting for your end while they check into your bankaccounts.
Along with lil timmie russert ( the only man in America whose father ever taught him anything) this jerk is another of the stray dogs that Hannity has bet wrong on.
"WHAT POLITICAL PRICE WILL DEMOCRATS PAY?
This is the question that should be asked."
Actually, the "question is" What is wrong with you and your "family"?
Pulled the plug 6 months ago on my Dad. It was what he wanted. He said so for the fifty years that he practiced Medicine.
I never had any doubt.
You, on the other hand might want to consider the integrity of others whom have been gifted the power to make these decisions (through your own hand, apparently)
for your sacrosanct little self.
I know I'm going to get flamed, oh well, it won't be the first time.
I've seen plenty of Jeb Bush bashing on this site, and I for one, commend him. Aside from Terri's family, he has done probably the most to try to help her. Many people keep saying that Jeb should go in and remove her himself knowing that he would probably get arrested and then impeached. And what would that serve? Terri would be safe for a short time, but thats it. It's so easy for people to say these things as they sit in the comfort of their homes, behind their computer ... not risking THEIR necks, but urging him to risk his. He has done all he can, the Schindlers have exhausted every option, it's in God's hands now.
And I pray He does something soon, because this is ripping my heart in two.

Absolutely none, they were the only ones to lift a finger for Terri while the RATS made all kinds of excuses for her to die.
gekko1 does. This is so easy.
Democrats are the party of death from the womb to the tomb.
This is an absolute lie. The doctor spent 45 minutes with Terri and then hours reviewing the tapes and her medical records. In addition, this doctor is the chief neurologist at the Mayo Clinic.
I stopped listening to Boortz for good over this one. I knew he hated conservative Christians and pro-life people, but he has been truly sickening on this issue. For Atlantans, The Regular Guys are back in the morning on 640 AM. I don't listen to their raunchy stuff, but they are fun to listen to otherwise. They were hilarious this morning discussing the two-person Atlanta crime wave known as Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston. I hope Terrell from Vine City and George Stein the DUI lawyer return to their show.
'Bye Neal.
Quote: "The GOP will pay a price for this stupidity. Polls show a huge majority oppose the failed intervention -- my entire family voted for Bush and is registered GOP but everyone of us thinks congress's actions were ridiculous and insulting.
The question is, What should the GOP do for damage control???"
Here is what they should do, nothing. The facts of this case are going to get out and it is going to turn on the Democrats, not the Republicans (who is putting out false memos that are supposedly "Republican Talking Points?")
Well, the polls are just not being honest. For example, when did you find out Terri was not in a coma? Did you know she wasn't. My mom, dad and wife all voted for Bush and shared your families view. Then a funny thing happened on the way to outrage, my parents and wife found out, by watching Fox, that Terri is not in a coma and that her parents and siblings are willing and able to take care of her. Hmmm, funny how the outrage went from the Republicans to the Judiciary. Well, actually my wife is outraged at President Bush for not going in with the Army (not to worry, I am splainin to her why that would be outrageous.)
Shouldn't the question be: Will the Democrats pay a political price for wanting this innocent woman dead?
Everyone knows in their gut who the party of 'death from the womb to the tomb is'.
I've seen him a couple of times on TV, never impressed me much. He's not on radio here,(that I know of) so I don't have to listen to him.
The hardcore Religious Right is now alienated because George and Jeb didn't send in the SWAT team / the National Guard / the Marines / the Dirty Dozen / whoever to simply override the law by main force.
The anti-Big-Government coalition is now alienated because the Republicans have torn the "get Washington off our backs" page out of their playbook and wiped their asses with it (and also because the party leadership somehow can't summon up anything approaching this level of energy for tax/spending cuts, Social Security reform, etc).
I don't know what the GOP leadership is going to come up with for damage control. I have no idea what I'd do if I'd gotten myself into such a mess.
