WHAT POLITICAL PRICE WILL REPUBLICANS PAY?
Neal Nuze ^ | 4/24/05 | Boortz

Posted on 03/24/2005 6:44:09 PM PST by NotchJohnson

was absolutely astounded yesterday when Florida Governor Jeb Bush held that press conference and talked about the State of Florida taking custody of Terri Schiavo. He presented to the media the opinion of a doctor that Terri Schiavo was not in a persistent vegetative state .. but rather just in some sort of a period of reduced consciousness. This doctor has never seen Terri Schiavo, except on videotape, and he's issuing findings that are completely at odds with doctors who have been personally examining Terri for many months.

Think about this for a moment. Attending physicians conduct their examinations and make their reports. The matter moves into the courts and is adjudicated ... adjudicated extensively. Nineteen state judges, one Federal District Court judge, one Court of Appeals, and three now four trips to the U.S. Supreme Court. Still, politicians aren't happy with the results ... so now the State contemplates using its police power to seize the body of Terri Schiavo so that she can be forced to endure this horrible existence for years to come.

Across America there are thousands of families who have faced similar situations and made their difficult decisions without political interference. There are tens of millions more who have expressed their wishes, both in writing and in words, that they never be kept alive in this manner. Now these people are watching this hideous spectacle of politicians plotting the literal kidnapping of Terri Schiavo. And why? To please a powerful political constituency .. the ant-abortion lobby.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that there are many people out there who, when faced with medical disaster, want to be turned over to politicians to be used as political pawns. I'm wondering if these people will be anxious to keep Republicans in power.

Neal has never been exactly sympathetic to anyone who can't defend themselves.

NONE, at least the Repubs have TRIED to save her. Maybe the American People will pay more attention to the election or selection of Judges.

This Doctor has seen Terri. He was not able to examine her but he was in the hospice room with her.

WHAT POLITICAL PRICE WILL REPUBLICANS DEMOCRATS PAY?

This is the question that should be asked.

The only people who would change their vote on this issue are Republicans--Dems will support their peeps for doing nothing, while the only Republicans who will change their votes are those who won't vote R because they're mad the R's didn't do more. Thus, a sum gain for the D's thanks to idealist pie-in-the-sky Republicans.

I used to listen to Boortz until the station replaced him with Rush. I never liked Rush, but he's growing on me... I don't miss Boortz in the least now. He's fallen into the same trap a lot of people have. The "let her die" trap. She wasn't dying until they removed her nourishment. Just as anyone would. If she could talk she'd be in better shape than Christopher Reeve was in when he died. The left loved him.

It doesn't matter if we have Republicans or Democrats in office. We are still, and will continue to get shafted with the 2 party regime.

Call me a pessimist, but tell me, can you really see anything that has changed? I mean REALLY changed? We still have rogue judges, high taxes, out of control government, borders wide open, you name it.

AINT NUTHIN GONNA CHANGE! UNTIL WE DECIDE TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR COUNTRY!

If trying to save a life is now a political liability...politics can go and be damned.

Boortz is a great talker, and his show can be very good. But he has always hated pro-lifers. He is weak on moral issues, and voted GOP for the first time in years strictly because of the War on Terror. Otherwise he is a useless 0.3 percent Libertarian.

I've heard libertarians defend slavery in the old south. Boortz is a libertarian, right? I'm not surprised he doesn't have a lot of compassion for Terri or her family. --

Indeed - there is no political price, and the GOP and the dems who joined them will get a bit of an upside, but not much.

The GOP will pay a price for this stupidity. Polls show a huge majority oppose the failed intervention -- my entire family voted for Bush and is registered GOP but everyone of us thinks congress's actions were ridiculous and insulting.

The question is, What should the GOP do for damage control???

That's actually very interesting--this is giving the DU's a lot of ammo. But they are forgetting that we are very early in the election cycle, and if they seriously think this is somehow going to lead to a huge seachange in politics, they are delusional.

Of course I can't guess at the NUMBERS, but I do think mine is an accurate assessment of the political fallout. We just don't know the volume of the reaction.
