Author: Hollywood's Castro Collaborators Revealed

What do Jesse Jackson, Danny Glover, Chevy Chase, Norman Mailer and Naomi Campbell have in common?

They're all charter members of the Fidel Castro fan club. Appearing on the Fox News Channel's "O'Reilly Factor" Tuesday night, author Humberto Fontova detailed the Castro-loving proclivities of America's literati-glitterati class, as described in his new book, "Fidel: Hollywood's Favorite Tyrant."

Fontova laid the groundwork for why the "Hollywood pinheads," as O'Reilly called them, think Castro is so great: because Castro is "the cool anti-American."

And, as we all know, Hollywood is a firm protectorate of the 'blame America first' crowd.

Fontova added, "Those guys [Castro and his revolutionaries] came down from the hills in 1959 with long hair, with beards ... and they still have a coolness cachet."

Always wanting to be "hip" and "cool," it comes as no surprise, then, that there is no shortage of Tinseltownwers who have offered bon mots for the brutal dictator:

# Unfunny funnyman Chevy Chase praised Castro's totalitarian brand of governance, noting: "Socialism works. I think Cuba proves that." # Actor Danny Glover called President Bush "a racist" for not lifting the four-decades-old U.S. trade embargo of Cuba, and signed a letter of support as recently as two weeks ago. # Jesse Jackson hailed Castro as "the most courageous politician I have ever met" - before raising his arm and yelling, "Viva Fidel!" # Writer Norman Mailer gushed that Fidel was "the first and greatest hero to appear in the world since the second World War." # Even airhead supermodel Naomi Campbell cooed that meeting the mass-murdering dictator was "a dream come true."

Jackson's and Glover's support for Castro is particularly offensive, noted Fontova.

"The longest- serving black political prisoner of the last century was not Nelson Mandela," he told O'Reilly. "His name is Eusebio Penalver. He is a Cuban who served his time in Castro's gulag."

O'Reilly said, "I wonder if Danny [Glover] knows that.

Fontova said, "I wonder if Jesse Jackson knows that."

O'Reilly summed up perfectly: "They don't care."

Hollywood, Follywood... If Castro's Cuba is such a paradise, why don't we deport all its fans?

Cuba is a totalitarian dungeon, not some uppity Aruba. Apparently Hollywood folks have enough air between their ears to inflate the Goodyear blimp.

Can those airheads REALLY believe that Castro's Cuba is a socialist paradise? They have obviously not seen the real Cuba.

If they were going to jail Bobby Fisher for going to Yugoslavia, then they should jail these idiots for going to Cuba.

She was born in London yes. And that book is more gratutious bashing of the entire American film industry because random kooks like Danny Glover.

# Unfunny funnyman Chevy Chase praised Castro's totalitarian brand of governance, noting: "Socialism works. I think Cuba proves that."

Sure, it works! For Castro. For the rest of Cuba, a socialist dictatorship is a terrific system, if you don't haggle over the details, like basic human rights...freedom of speech...freedom of the press...freedom of religion...due process of law...real elections with real candidates. Things like that really gum up the works in preserving "law and order" and keeping people in line. But I suppose none of it matters when you have a socialized healthcare system, with "free" health care.

Mailer is also something of a filmmaker, with two films to his credit (although their titles escape me). Jackson has made numerous television appearances on non-news shows--Saturday Night Live, for one. It could probably be argued that Jesse Jackson is the only ordained minister to have spent more time in front of a camera than behind a pulpit.

You're right, though. Labeling these guys 'Hollywood' is a bit of a stretch.

but the 'Hollywood is Satan's Spawn' brigade here will hear none of it! :-) Hence epithets thrown around regarding everything from off the beaten track indies to British and Canadian films. It's all Hollyweird!

If they worship Castro as the "cool anti-American" what does that make them?

The idiot, jackass, lunatic, socialist, Hollywierd fringe, out-of-touch with reality anti-Americans.

She has never been paid for what she thinks or says. As far as I know she isn't into causes or a hard leftist. She is pure glitterati, possibly without a brain in her pretty little head. Who cares what she says? Certainly not the fashion mags who pay her way. Nor me. Look and enjoy!

What is it about some celebrities that make them want to demonstrate to the entire world just how stupid they are?

Liberals condemn conservative business people for what they call making their fortunes on the back of the working class, even when those people provide jobs. Yet they adore Castro for doing exactly what they accuse honest people of doing.

Someone on another thread said it best: There are two types of liberals. Those that hate America, and those who enable them.

I have a short film screenplay going into independent production in June. My business partner is a director and producer of TV commercials and educational films who wants to roll the dice and go into 'real' movie-making. Our plan is to use the short film as a kind of resume to show to The Men In Suits With Money that we have the storytelling and technical skills necessary to pull off a feature-length effort. Naturally, we look to Hollywood: they have the funding, they have the distribution, they have the marketing muscle to make it work. And by and large, these guys don't have an idealogical agenda, per se. I doubt very much if they'll care if the screenplay is written by a Bush-voting Republican. They'll care very much, though, if the script is tight, produce-able, and widely appealing enough to make a profit.

People express amazement at my politically conservative viewpoint (and a decidedly non-bohemian lifestyle) even though I essentially write and draw for a living. Why should that be? Thinkers and critics like Roger Kimball of the 'New Criterion,' for example, have shown that modern art and political conservatism are not incompatible.

Oh, well. Too big a subject and not enough time.
