Where is Texas City located, btw?
Prayers for all involved.
I thought after the MASSIVE fertilizer explosion at the port in 1947 or whatever, it was sort of all over the map! ;-)
For tose with cable TXCN is providing good coverage.
Well, it was - but they had managed to sweep it up in a pile.
Suburb of Houston........... near the gulf side
Which is south and a little south west of Houston, for those that don't know.
Wow a lot of explosions this week. There was one here in Ma yesterday. Also the Ford plant.
Suburb of Houston? Suburb of Galveston, more like.
(Except for the track and the mall.)
Oh goodness. That was before my time. Sorry.
Thank you!!! I am too lazy to get out my Atlas. :)
Texas City is on the mainland, opposite Galveston Island, on Galveston Bay, about 45 minutes out of Houston, TX. It is in Galveston County.
Texas City is highly industrialized, with dozens of refineries and chemical plants. Noteworthy is the "Texas City Disaster" in 1947 when a French freighter The Grand Camp" loaded with ammonia nitrate, docked at Texas City Port, exploded and set off explosions of nearby chemical plants.
Sorry Jaded - didn't mean to ignore Galveston - to me, Houston is so large that most of us in surrounding areas are just suburbs of them - Texas City is, of course, closer to Galveston but I figured a lady in Maine would be more aware of Houston than where Galveston was located
Thanks - better description than mine -
The plant in BP Amoco and this not their first incident. There was a small fire there last year.
Several are missing and a search is being made in the rubble. Of the ten taken to the area hospitals 2 are listed as critical and 1 is listed as serious. No information on the others that were transported to the hospitals.
south west?
No problemo.
About 2 years ago we drove down to pick up a Shih Tzu before Christmas. During the week the city was having a Christmas parade at night with a reception with caroling at a local church. Very small town feel. Definitely NOT Houston.
I think theoretically it is the beginning of the ship channel.
I'm on the other side - Fort Bend County - near Richmond - talk about an "old town" feel.......lol
