* Al Qaeda which operated as an efficient organ of command and control has been smashed to pieces. Just two of its former top 20 leaders, Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri, are believed to be still alive and free and those two are in hiding, seemingly without regular organizational contact with Islamist cells anywhere in the world.
Since December 2001, the two have managed to send a total of six authenticated messages from their hideouts....
* Targeted governments have begun to fight back.
In Pakistan, more than 13,000 schools suspected of propagating extremist ideas have been shut in the past two years. In Yemen, the number of such schools to be shut is around 24,000....
* The movement is also finding it increasingly difficult to attract new recruits, especially within the Muslim world. Even in Western Europe (where Muslim communities still represent fertile recruiting ground), the number of "volunteers" peaked in the fall of 2003 and has been falling since.
One big problem is that the number of places where Islamists can hide in safety is dwindling....
* For the first time in two decades, the movement is also beginning to face fund-raising difficulties. The generous donations that indirectly came from various regional countries have stopped, while scores of bank accounts operated by the militants have been frozen.
A total of 103 charities suspected of raising funds for terror have been shut or otherwise neutralized in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Kuwait alone. Some businessmen still manage to get funds to various groups, often via third parties. But these channels are also being detected and shut one by one....
* The Islamist terror movement has suffered another disappointment the dashing of its hopes for an international anti-American front....

As inevitable as the sunrise.
FYI. Haven't seen the MSM talking about this much either. ;^)
That's because we're killing them faster than they can move them in. Also, even the dumbest terror recruit is beginning to notice that their suicide bombings are accomplishing nothing.
What somehow never gets mentioned is that the biggest reason that Al Qaeda's capability has been so greatly diminished is that we've taken out two of their biggest former government sponsors, the Taliban and Saddam Hussein. And make no mistake about it, many of their other major sponsors have gotten the message loud and clear about what could potentially happen to them. Our current brain trust knew exactly what it was doing, despite the heaps of disinformation that have been doled out to the general public over the last couple of years.
Closing the madrassahs is extremely important. I hadn't heard that so many of them had been closed. There's still a long ways further to go, however. Schooling of Muslim children in extremist Wahhabist teachings prepars the way for millions of future terrorists, something that simply cannot be permitted.
It's mostly Saudi money that has opened and funded these terrorist schools. Something still needs to be done about that, because they are continuing to work on opening more of them around the world.
"In Pakistan, more than 13,000 schools suspected of propagating extremist ideas have been shut in the past two years. In Yemen, the number of such schools to be shut is around 24,000."
So, all that's needed to finish up are 37,000 hangings of the head mullahs.
"One big problem is that the number of places where Islamists can hide in safety is dwindling."
One big problem -- for them. ;')

Thanks for the ping....some day we are going to get Bin Laden and Zawahiri....count on it.
Who is the person in that picture? He looks familiar, but for some reason I just can't place his name......
;)

Ditto. I missed this story. Now the question is will Pakistan and Yemen replace these schools with schools that teach something other than hate? I can't say about Yeman but the reason these schools got started in Pakistan and flourished there was the government spent nothing on schooling.
If Democrats can't admit they've made mistakes, how can they learn from them?
Silly goose! Don't you know Democrats don't make mistakes? You don't have to take my word for it, just ask them.
Thanks for the ping...a very good report!
Oh my!
But if they close all the madrassahs, where will Wadd Churchill get a new "teaching" job?
bttt
