Jeb Bush Renews Call to Help schiavo

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) - Their options dwindling after two failed federal court appeals, Terri Schiavo's parents and brother vowed Wednesday to take their fight to the U.S. Supreme Court and state Legislature as the brain-damaged woman was in her fifth day without a feeding tube.

Gov. Jeb Bush renewed his call for the Legislature to step in and ``spare Terri's life.''

In a 2-1 ruling early Wednesday, a panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta said the parents, who have battled with son-in-law Michael Schiavo for years over the woman's fate, ``failed to demonstrate a substantial case on the merits of any of their claims'' that the feeding tube should be reinserted immediately.

``There is no denying the absolute tragedy that has befallen Mrs. Schiavo,'' the ruling by Judges Ed Carnes and Frank M. Hull said. ``We all have our own family, our own loved ones, and our own children. However, we are called upon to make a collective, objective decision concerning a question of law.''

Me third.

The law is often used in creative ways in order to find justice for the wicked.

Why can't it be used to find justice for the weak.

He can not do that. It's against the law.

Praying is wonderful, but breaking the law is not. Governor Bush can not break the law.

I feel as bad as anyone and would bet that not only Jeb but the President has their lawyers looking at every possible avenue so as to not set a precedent in case we get a future scumbag like Clinton.

I realize that but THEY WILL DO IT ANYWAY IF THEY GET IN POWER!

Please, you've got to be kidding me. He can't break the law. Period. That's it. Rationality and reason have left this site completely over this issue.

Should Terri be saved? Absolutely. Is there a legal basis to do it? Yes. We have to pray that the legal means works. Illegal means can't and won't work.

Putting my nurse's hat on, I cannot understand why the licensing boards have not become involved long ago.

Based on reports I have heard, she has not been out of her room for 5 years and the windows allow for no daylight.

Things I do as normal nursing care, Range of Motion which does not need to be ordered by an MD have not been done.

I value my license and if a family member or even a judge ordered me to act in a way that would put my license at risk, I'd say no way, no how. And if I was fired, I would go to the Board of Nursing.

When a patient is admitted for comfort care, he or she gets the exact care I would give a patient who was expected to walk out of the hospital the next day.

I believe the nurses who have spoken out. I believe them when they say Terri can and did interact with them. Nurses spend more time with a patient than the MD who makes the big bucks and everyone quotes as if Moses came down from the mountain.

In any institutional setting the floor monkeys are the eyes and ears of the doctors. It seems in this case, the ones in charge chose to ignore the floor monkeys.

This is why I am pulling for Terri.

Regarding the insulin and the disappearing notes, that would have been a case where I would have made a copy of my nurse's notes because if I did suspect as much, I would not want anyone pointing at me. As I said before, Sh!t rolls downhill.

If I had been one of those nurses's, I would have been talking to the licensing boards long ago.

I know this troubles you...but as a Christian, you know she is 1/2 step from God. I hope you can take some measure of comfort in that.

Not all all, you are spreading heresy. Nothing sciptural about what you said.

No one wants him to break the law, but these folks have access to the best legal and political minds that exist. Surely the law can be used to save her life and those that are to follow her.

I agree with you -- pursue every angle that is available right now.

How can people in this Hospice let this happen or the cops surrounding her -- to deny someone food and water would make me quit my job and walk out in protest.

But that's not your decision to make for her. That's the point. I commend your faith and belief . . . I agree with you that certain peace will be upon her if she passes, but that's not for you or me to impose what we would like done on to her. There are plenty of reasons to doubt Michael Schiavo's version of events, hence, his assertion that this is her wish must be questioned.

No, sorry, it can't. Sometimes despite the moral argument, you lose in court. That's just the way it is.

Exactly and part of what is bothering me -- you don't wait for so long before you do something and now they are all over the talk shows.

Governor Bush can not break the law.

Aside from the fact that he wouldn't be, why can't he? Judge Greer does. Regularly.

What's Really Driving the Death Train

Is Pinellas County using guardianship as a cover for robbing the handicapped and elderly?

If you had found a way to steal thousands of dollars from wealthy elderly, where would you find the most victims? Yes, Florida is the first state that comes to my mind.

Former Sheriff Rice Uneasy As Schiavo Case Goes to Congress

Greer, a probate judge in Florida’s Sixth Judicial Circuit, has assisted Michael Schiavo in the judicial homicide of the brain damaged woman who sustained her injuries in 1990 in suspicious circumstances at her home when only Michael Schiavo was present.

Rice was sheriff of Pinellas County at the time and despite repeated complaints of abuse allegations in the Schiavo case, including recent incidents of alleged abuse by Michael Schiavo towards his incapacitated wife, Rice has steadfastly refused to investigate them.
