Something MUST Be Done Today for Terri Schiavo (Rescue Her Today!)
Free Republic ^ | 3/23 | self

Posted on 03/23/2005 2:47:26 AM PST by beyond the sea

I wrote this to a FReeper earlier. She was feeling much frustration with many here I believe because of what was, in her mind, a careless disregard for morality and the well-being of an innocent and quite defenseless girl, Terri Schiavo.

The intelligent and good FReeper was at the point of wanting to leave FR. So I wrote her:

*****

Don't go, please. You're one of the folks here with a real good heart and very strong feelings. That is a very good combination. Don't go ........

I'm getting a feeling (or a wish) that today (Wednesday) the Federal marshals or some others are going to take control of this abysmal situation. Unlike the Elian Gonzalez catastrophe, this will be for the good of a human being.

Maybe in the future it can be referred to as 'Good Wednesday'. Because the more I learn about this entire case, this girl has been done wrong since the very beginning and things must be righted. What is happening now must end....... well.

*********

I implore all who care about the wrongness of all this to contact the White House, contact anyone who could have something to do with getting action TODAY. There can not be any more wasted time and destruction of this innocent girl. If this husband is much of what we suspect, this matter should not be allowed to end in her death by these brutal means!

You didn't offend me. I truly don't know the line, but I am sure I will know it when I see it.

You can use that statement to bear in and bully me or you can accept that is my position on the matter.

I don't see my approach as particularly safe or unsafe. I just see it as my approach. Your calling it "safe" has a tinge of contempt that doesn't make me want to engage in a conversation.

Cajongirl said: "He said he was leaving and I concurred. Yes, there are people advocating just that, that others break the law including people in government. I just don't think that is a good idea."

Thank God Bonhoeffer and others broke the law in Germany and saved some Jews as a result.

The president and governor break NO law by writing executive orders or taking Terri into protective custody.

None whatsoever.

God gave us all spines. Let's use them!

The sheep are being separated from the goats. The men are being separated from the ghouls. The wheat from the tares.

This is an instant in history when a truly great man seizes the moment and acts on the side of what is right and moral, despite the clamorings of the children of satan. On the other hand, it is a time when a mediocrity just bides his time, does nothing, and allows "fate" to take its course.

Let's not forget--if the Bush brothers turn out to be mediocrities, the people of Florida still have time to act. If 1,000 people occupied that hospice, no one would stop them...

I think civil disobedience is pretty much the only hope left at this point.

Because the natural trend is to drift toward the middle.

Not the crusading leftists in the court's history. Assuming this as a "natural" trend (no disprespect intended) is part of the problem. The left defines "progress" in their direction. For some strange reason, the right accepts this and define their role only as slowing the march. Instead of selling Bork as a counterweight to judicial activism, we should have sold him as a positive march in the right direction, in the direction of progress. We need to make sure that the guy we put up is Scalia AMPLIFIED.

The comparison to the Elian story are absolutely and patently absurd.

I don't agree. There are a lot of parallels with Elian Gonzales here.

Elian Gonzales' father's rights trumped Elian's right to liberty and Micheal Schiavo's rights as a husband trumps his wife's right to life. Or so the left says. IOWs men may treat their women and children as property. The Dems are doing really well on civil rights issues these days. They are moving wayyyyy back to try to recapture traditional values as their issue.

In terms of inalienable rights I consider the right to life to be the most basic, the most fundamental, without life you can't very well exercise any other right. Yet the argument seems to be that spousal rights trump it. Spousal rights are being trumpeted as an absolute that even the other spouse's right to life must bow to. Sounds like wife as chattel to me.

In both cases the left supported the lesser right of guardianship over the more primal inherent rights of life and liberty.

Lord, give Terri strength to go on. Be her strength. Let her understand that her suffering is causing an awakening in America and even the world. Give her joy and patience, a fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Thank You for that extra cerebral spinal fluid that is in her brain, protecting it from fast dehydration!!

Only You can cause our hearts to repent and turn to You and turn away from our sins. Please be gracious and merciful for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, Amen.
PS and get Terri to say "I WANT TO LIVE"

I AGREE IN THIS PRAYER, LORD, AMEN.

I have called several times for "civil disobedience" in this matter. It is our duty to as not only Americans but as humans.

I'm with you. I've seriously considered flying to Florida to do this. They've pushed it too far--some one's got to act D@MN IT!

Jim, you hit the nail on the head. When conservatives appoint jurists, they appoint judges who'll uphold the rule of law, even when the rule of law isn't pleasant, and even when the answer isn't what we're looking for. When liberals appoint judges, you get rubber stamps for the ACLU, NAMBLA, PETA, and every other whackjob group out there with an agenda.

Your post just brought back memories of how Rodney King's supporters got the verdict they wanted from the feds.

That is nothing but evidence that the Feds cave to pressure. If such pressure may be applied on the side of evil, what objection is there to similar pressure applied on the side of good?

Could Gov. Bush look up and find an unsolved murder from back when Terri was a teen and charge her with it. The supreme Court made it illegal to kill teen murders.

Well, that's definitely thinking out of the box.

People, please...we're starting to sound like DU here. We have GOT to stay in reality.

Let's see, how about a list of reaons?

No authority over the matter.

It would be wrong.

It would be an abuse of power.

It would violate the Posse Commitatus Act

It would be a knife in the heart of federalism

It would damage, nay kill the GOP politically.

It would......

A savy and interesting take. Most of the Freepers who have been posting Elian pictures have been taking the view that those of us who defend life are also defending the police state.

We're not in reality anymore, I'm afraid. Who ever thought they'd see the day when the US government would be standing by while a rogue judiciary orders a woman starved to death?

Excellent questions. Why are the courts accepting hearsay in Terri's case?

And why are the courts and so many many other eager to see Terri killed in this horrible way? Does one have to be young, cute and perky (such as Laci) or rich and famous (such as Reeve and Sunny) to receive widespread sympathy?
