Schiavo 'fading quickly,' parents tell court

TAMPA, Fla. - Warning that Terri Schiavo is "fading quickly," her parents begged a federal appeals court Tuesday to order the severely brain-damaged woman's feeding tube reinserted while they pursue claims that her rights are being violated.

David Gibbs III, attorney for parents Bob and Mary Schindler, told the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta that their 41-year-old daughter might die before they get a chance to fully argue their case. The appeal came after a federal judge in Tampa rejected the parents' emergency request earlier Tuesday.

"Where, as here, death is imminent, it is hard to imagine more critical and exigent circumstances," Gibbs said in the appeal, filed electronically with the court. "Terri is fading quickly and her parents reasonably fear that her death is imminent."

Sorry for being such an ignorant about this issue, but I can't figure out what motives may drive her husband.

Money? - for what?

"Freedom"? - he can divorce her and let her family take care about her

Fame?

Hatred maybe???

I've read today in a Polish newspaper an interview with a doctor, who's in charge of a section of a hospital somewhere in Poland, in which people being in a state like Terry are located. And he said, that if he was supposed make a decision considering himslef - before something like that happened to him - so he would wish not to be kept alive in such a state. But if it was about his wife, he'd never do anything like that, especially if her parents opposed it.

Behaviour of Terry's husband is just beyond my ability to comprehend.

I said: "In my mind, each and every one of these police officers are no different than the Nazi troopers who allowed themselves to be a part of the holocaust! It's the old "I was only following orders" excuse here in the good ol' USA! These cops are the worst of the lot, just cowardly scum packin' guns to do the will of the "Fuhrer", Judge Greer! There are no words to describe the depth of depravity of these sub-human scumbags in blue uniforms!"

You said: "That was so chock full o' hyperbole that I assume you just forgot the sarcasm tag."

I meant every word I said. I just knew all along that the government would have NO PROBLEM finding SCUMBAGS in blue uniforms that would do WHATEVER they were ordered to do without batting an eyelash! Where, oh where, are the honorable police officers in this country that value their everlasting souls over their mealy-mouthed paychecks? I say again, these COWARDLY SKUNKS are NO DIFFERENT than the NAZI perpetrators of the holocaust!

This sad and sick affair underscores the need to be well-armed.

I'm tempted, living in a state where the majority of inhabitants believe human beings are a disposable commodity that can be thrown in the trash, to post a printout on the back of my car:

"You got your wish with Terri. When you come for me and my family, we will be armed."

I'll pray to St. Pio during this dark day. May he intercede with God for Terri.

I call him St. Padre Pio, and have trouble with that. I am used to calling him Padre Pio.

For the doubting Thomas's about Terri, Padre Pio cured a girl with no pupils. She could she [or at least Padre Pio prayed to God so that God would let her see].

As for the original Doubting Thomas, the Apostle St Thomas formed 7 churches in India 2000 years ago, and to my knowledge all 7 are still in existence.

For those who have a lack of belief.

Notwithstanding the attempted murder rumors, I still don't see what MS has too lose by divorcing Terri and allowing her parents to care for her. It just doesn't make any kind of rational sense.

I don't believe 26 yr old healthy women have heart attacks. The odds are against it. So something else cut off Terri's oxygen in 1990 like maybe a pillow or a hand over her nose and mouth.

If Terri had rehab and regained her ability to speak, it would have been bad news for MS. He couldn't let that happen and in fact, he didn't let it happen.

If he had turned custody over to her parents, they'd be in charge after Terri's death as well. Think autopsy. Sometimes dead "men" do tell tales.

"Oh, yes--their will has been done. They are God afterall."

They may be "gods" now in their own current existence, but the true God has a plan for them. It involves an eternity without nutrition or hydration. We'll see who prevails in the end.

We can't get the freaking government to protect our borders, and you think they are going to send troops to a hospice?

The President and the Gov of FL have done all that they can do. Instead of insulting them, give them credit for doing something useful instead of the keyboard warriors who have suggested things to bring about a mini-civil war in FL.

I believe with ten thousand they would not have to be armed at all.

I do not believe the officer would initiaite deadly force...they would back out of the way in the face of such a masive number. We saw this at Klamath, when the farmers finally went over the fence, they were not resisted. The government was not willing to kill in that instance and I do not believe they would do so here if there were enough people.

"...a huricane season that will make last year pale in comparrison..."

Which reminds me. Next time, I wonder how generous everyone may feel about cleaning up down there. Texas always sends thousands of tons of ice. Ice sent to Hell may be useless. Think I'll send my contribution elsewhere.

That is patently false. The hospice is not a branch of government, so no separation of powers issue is involved.

Separation of powers doesn't have anything to do with buildings, but how the branches of government are allowed to operate without interference from the other branches.

It's certainly possible that nobody would impeach Bush for doing it, but that doesn't make it constitutionally permissible. It's not.

I'm sure Terri's "husband" has the champagne on ice.

Probably so. I wonder if he'll marry Jodi Centozone, the mother of his kids. To me he looks like a creepy lounge lizard.

Sit by and let this happen Jeb Bush and George Bush - lets see what history will say of you, you have the power to stop this but do nothing - shame.

Just what do you think they can do? We don't live in a monarchy or a dictatorship.

Excellent paraphrasing. I hope people are reading it, and taking it to heart. All of us grow old, and many of us become infirm--and both expensive and labor-intensive for our families. For many, their day might also come.
