Interestingly enough, I heard a guest on the Lars Larson show (local version) that was very concerned about this case because he had a child with Cerebral Palsy. He mentioned that those with more advanced cases of CP are in a very similar state to the state that Terri is in. Obviously, this was disturbing to him as someone could use the same logic to starve people like his child.

If you don't want her to be rescued, you do want her to die.

Not at all.

That said, I'm not part of the "life at all costs" crowd. I certainly wouldn't want to live like that for 15 years, and I don't want the federal government interfering with that. Guess again, if you think having a Living Will would resolve these issues.

Also, I have taken the time to educate myself as much as possible on Terri's case. I don't take the attitude of "Well, I don't like the evidence so I'm going to ignore it". Most of the rumors floating around on FR are really bizarre. And most of the flaming occurs because people are not able to back up their assertions so they resort to attacking their fellow Freepers. From what I've seen a large number of the posts that are truly un-Christian have been posted by Freepers who claim Christ as their Savior.

I respect those who say we should err on the side of life. I don't respect those who say this is all a plot by Michael, Scott, Joan, Felos, Greer, the Florida appellate judges, Whittemore, and coming soon -- keeping in mind the Justices in Washington have already made their opinions known in similar cases -- the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

ABC did a virtual pushpoll asking (in so many words) if Terri should live or die.

Why do you use the term pushpoll only when the results disagree with your beliefs?

This is the report ContraryMary is referring to.

This article is five years old. No where does the author, Steven Novella, MD, question Hammesfahr's credentials or call him a quack.

I have a minor neck problem. I have had numerous MRIs. NO doctor would provide treatment based on a 4 + year old test. Pet scan shows what a CAT scan can't. Using a CAT scan as sole diagnostic tool for Terri is akin to bloodletting as treatment for a broken bone.

A search of the site for "Hammesfahr" nets one article under the title "Promoters of Questionable Methods." One article? Hardly a lot of info. You have more?

The heading above the list states -

Each of the following has been involved in some way with the promotion or administration of questionable health products and/or services. Many of them have written at least one book that I believe contains invalid information. Most appear to hold sincere beliefs. Those marked with a red asterisk (*) have been subjected to regulatory or enforcement action. Nonaccredited degrees are marked with black asterisks (*). Each asterisk represents one action or degree.. Click on each name to see the reason they are on this list.

Surely you have more information about the quackery of Dr. Hammesfahr.

She'll tell you to check quackwatch.com -- I'll save you the trouble. It's apparently a one-man organization:

Stephen Barrett, M.D., a retired psychiatrist who resides in Allentown, Pennsylvania, has achieved national renown as an author, editor, and consumer advocate. In addition to heading Quackwatch, he is vice-president of the National Council Against Health Fraud, a scientific advisor to the American Council on Science and Health, and a Fellow of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP). In 1984, he received an FDA Commissioner's Special Citation Award for Public Service in fighting nutrition quackery. In 1986, he was awarded honorary membership in the American Dietetic Association. From 1987 through 1989, he taught health education at The Pennsylvania State University. He is listed in Marquis Who's Who in America and received the 2001 Distinguished Service to Health Education Award from the American Association for Health Education.

It seems if some research is done quackwatch , imo, can be ranked right up there with the Sierra Club I suggest that you check the legal records in Lehigh County Pennsylvania [1] and find out how Dr. Barrett uses the court system to intimidate any doctor or individual who doesn't agree with him.

I tried pointing that out to Mary, but apparently she does not have a good comeback yet.

I agree that Greer's order to deny her food and water via the mouth is a grossly illegal directive. However, she needs to be removed from the hospice run by euthanasia advocates, and placed in a hospital. Only then can the proper medical ethics be applied.

"One never stops being a parent, after all."

Very true. And most of us as a rule try very hard to keep our noses out of our married children's business. Yet, in cases such as the one we are discussing here, where parents, siblings, friends and even total strangers, see such a monstrous miscarriage of justice and possibly criminal activity happening right before our eyes-the sancity of marriage, should not prevent intervention on behalf of the victimized member by any of the above.

The aleged right to privacy, should not provide a cover for criminal activity.

You think it's preferable to choke to death quickly?

Preferable to starvation? Absolutely.

He is listed in Marquis Who's Who in America

He paid some money to be listed in the Who's Who and recevied a lovely hardbound volume with his name printed in it. That's proves he's legit. LOL!

Make that: Terri's wishes according to Michael Schiavo five years after the "fact."

Eight years. And only after he retained the services of attorney George Felos, euthanasia advocate extroardinaire.
