This is an unprecedented session. The Congress is meeting to save one persons life (in real time).

The only reason the Democrats are agreeing to this is that they don’t want to be known as the party that killed Terri.

This is American history happening before your eyes.

Part of the problem I see is the fact that you wrote the Bible with a lowercase "b". That's a big red flag to me that you don't believe in what the Bible says - but rather in what man says. I find that very sad.

The courts have already time and time again established precedent, by overruling 200 years of the Constitution.

Well .. all this does show how little we have paid attention to what these people were doing all these years.

I'm sure it has come as a blow to some people that the Congress has the right to overrule the courts. The courts were never designed to be the sole keeper of the Constitution.

Besides, the founders realized that the courts would be appointed - therefore the true representatives of the people had to be able to have a remedy to stop a run away court.

This is what we have done today.

I'm very proud to see that my party was willing to put their political life on the line and do what was right. And for those 5 republicans who did not vote to save Terri - you have brought your demise upon yourself.

We defend "the process" which is the justice system. However, the justice system as used by Judge George Greer operated like a kangaroo court to railroad poor Terri Schiavo to her death. What you refuse to address is the fact that the use of life support is commonly thought of as breathing respirators and cardio machines to restart the heart. If Terri Schiavo ever discussed the idea of being taken off life support if she were in a permanent vegetative state, you cannot convince me that she thought of the withdrawal of a feeding tube. No one would want to go through a slow, painful death. If you think Terri specified feeding tubes, then my man, the next time you go to the dentist, tell him you want the entire procedure done without a pain killer. Then, if that idea seems too much of a stretch, why don't you try going two days without water. That is why no one is going to convince me that Terri told her husband that if necessary, she wants to go two weeks without water if she so happens to be in a vegetative state. That is why this case defies all logic. It is as if everyone entered some dimensional warp and are speaking gibberish.

Euthanasia must have some seductive powers over the logical mind. Methinks the vision of dollar bills has caused too many brain cells to go into a permanent vegetative state.

She's probably right. There's still a 50/50 chance a Federal Judge will not take this case. Then what?

I'm in partial agreement with you. I wish this had not been (IMO) neccesary.

It's an axiom that good cases make bad laws. However, I think in this instance the congress did a good job of limiting the scope, to essential a writ of habeus, such that it will do little harm.

Now the upcoming debate on the broader question - the bill the House wanted - will have much more import in the way you describe.
