Imagine how Michael Schiavo feels. He's been doing everything by the book and been called the same.
I know a number of posters who were chased off the Terri threads after many pinned the "Nazi death camp gatekeeper", "murderer" label on them, simply because they were expressing the other side of the case. Many of them haven't been back since.

You are correct, Mo. It was while he was living with them that Michael was hostile toward Terri's sister.
Anyway, this case illuminates the legal system quite well. At the very least, take it as it presents itself.

No. I AM concerned as to how we got from taking someone that is NOT dying (regardless of disability) and actively try to end her life.

I understand that's one really imaginative story you've concocted. I haven't seen anything stating Terri showed up at the hospital with marks around her neck. Why is it so hard to believe that Terri wanted to be skinny so she didn't eat causing herself harm? I suppose people have to pin that on Michael because if they don't Terri might have some blame in this.
Here is my struggle with all this: has it been proven beyond a shadow of doubt that Terri did not want to live like this?

No I do not think it is okay to call you murderers. And you will note I never have done that.
I was referring to that one post and not to anyone else. And yes people sure can discuss their opinions- but just like free speech there are repercussions to actions. SO to call the parents opportunists while their child lie dying and they are not allowed to see her- is going to get a response from me. I believe that is my right.
I have followed this story for years and years now. I have worked in hospice Care, with the elderly, as a social worker with Cerebral palsy children and adults and with dying people. I have worked for a Congressman in Medicare.
I know a bit more than the average person on the behind the scenes here. Yet- still I have just an opinion at the end of the day. I haven't posted that much myself. I have called no one here a murderer.
The Constitution states that Terry has rights
My understanding of the Congress Bill .. it does not take your right away if you state in writing or say a video tape that you don't want to continue life with a feeding tube
What I understand, it states is that if there is no record of your wishes, then you have a right to have your case in a Federal Court
It doesn't state that the Fed Court HAS to hear your case .. just that they may hear your case

That's why Congress has been inserted into the equation because people are quick to pin some vitriol and outrageous unsubstantiated accusations on Micheal (typically called slander) and try to twist the court's decisions in their favor. I guess if Judge Greer is a murderer, that makes Antonin Scalia (many FReepers hope he's the next USSC Justice) one too, since he agrees with Greer's interpretation of Florida law. It's amazing how low these threads have sunk.
THAT is my next biggest problem. Murderers get more benefit of the doubt than Terri seems to be getting. BEYOND a reasonable doubt. Isn't that the criteria.

Well,the way it is looking-It appears that if you believe that all people( United States citizens) have a Constitutional right to representation in court then I don't think you will have a problem.

Me too. But, what I can't and won't condone is his denial of access to Terri. That is different from asking him to interact with the parents. He can let Terri's parents spend time with Terri, without being personally bothered by interaction with them. Assuming he has his way, Terri will die soon. If the parents libel him, he can sue.
Exactly. There's a 50/50 chance they may not want to hear Terri's case. Then what? This is exactly what I am talking about. What Congress did is just make a few people feel better. It's no different that the "no smoking in public places" law because a few people can't stand to be in a smoky room.
Scalia has already come out in support of Greer? Terri's family has a long way to go.
The USSC threw the case back down to the lower courts. All 9 Supremes came out unanimous in that decision.
