Yes, Terri did NOT need the feeding tube. It was inserted to make feeding her easier. So she could likely eat and drink by mouth if given the chance.

Yes, thank you. I thought that was the case. I knew I wasn't going batty!

Sorry my reply took so long, I just had to leave for awhile. Some of the arguments and discussions were quite agressive! :)

Hildy, Two questions:
1. Do you support the Groningen Protocol?

2. Do you view the Hippocratic oath as flawed?

"She'll be on the State's dime forever."

As the German government once propagandized:
"You also bear the burden"

So she could likely eat and drink by mouth if given the chance.

That is just not true. Not true at all.

Well at least it will buy time and you never know - she could wake up and all this will be moot. And if she dies, God forbid, while being cared for, it will NOT set an ominous precedent. In America, we do not want judges in the business of deciding who gets to live and who gets to die if they're not convicted of a crime.

"Its an act of murder. If we were honest about it we would drop the euphemisms. What Judge Greer did was morally wrong and he acted beyond the scope of his authority. He had no more right to with hold food and water from her than he had to order her killed with a gun. "

YES! Thank you, I had to make sure this is reposted again. This is the precedence that cannot be left standing.

I am a little baffled by this comment calling me ignorant. Regarding what?

"I really don't have time to explain, because your thinking process will not accept it right now anyway. You are too emotional..."

I thought you where talking about the facial expressions of a fetus in the womb..where you not?

And how precisely can you tell that I am overly emotional? Can you see my facial expression through your monitor?

Projecting?

A marriage vow means you love your spouse under all circumstances, not just when its convenient for you. True love is unconditional and giving; its not taking and selfish. If you can't bring itself to face up to the fact you're responsible for your mate's well-being, physical as well mental, don't get married. 'Nuff said.

Even though he lives with another woman out of wedlock and has her children? That doesn't square with the image of a devoted and loving husband to me. If he feels now his wife's a burden, he can divorce her. He doesn't need to have her killed.

I didn't say she could likely eat and drink by mouth RIGHT NOW! She was being spoon fed before and lost the ability to do so when Hubby Dear had tubes inserted. I think if she could do it before, THEN she could likely re-learn to be spoon fed again.

"I believe her husband, that she would not want to live like that. I know I wouldn't."

For you the above is the enitre Crux of the matter.

Firstly, you don't know that you wouldn't want to live. The will to survive is very strong for most people and I bet that includes you.

Secondly, even if you are were right about yourself, how does that translate to what Terri wants?

Let me tell you something, Hildy. I have recently gotten to know TEN women, who were graduates of the same Archdiocesan school system that Terri was (that includes myself). We have many differences about out faith, yet ONLY one of the TEN didn't see Terri's situation as a travesty.

At 26, if the testimony was accurate, my view of the Karen Ann Quinlan situation, was identical to Terri's. At the time of Terri's collapse, feeding tubes were NOT an issue. I think it is FAR more likely, particualrly given the fact that Terri has surived two previous STARVATION attempts and countless illnesses, that Terri agrees with me on this issue and NOT you. If she wanted to die, she would be DEAD. She OBVIOUSLY doesn't.

Of the many wonderful reasons I hope Terri gets to keep her life, one of them is when Terri learns to speak again, I hope she tells you and people like you, that she wanted to LIVE!

Greer needs to be dealt with - but is there any way of doing it besides the contempt of Congress charge? Just curious...

Since the judge is blind, he is clearly disabled, and his judgments suggest a vegetative brain. We should simply deny him food and water; after all, he has a right to die.

I've stated that if she's not PVS, then I am no longer conflicted and absolutely do not want this done to her (removing the feeding tube).

So far, I've seen nothing to indicate that she isn't PVS.

Several courts have found that it is not doubtful that Terri made that statement to Michael.

And I believe the reason he will not transfer custody to her parents is to spare her the gruesome lengths to which they are willing to go to keep her alive. I would expect my husband to fight my parents if I were in her situation.

When Michael formally offered to divest himself entirely of his financial interests in the guardianship estate, why didn't her parents take him up on it. And if he's in it for the money, why hasn't he accepted the offers of $10M and $1M that have been made to him by two millionnaires? I can tell you that my husband wouldn't accept that kind of $$ either, if it meant not obeying my wishes.

We will have to agree to disagree about his possible motives, and if someone has evidence that she's not PVS, the courts, judges, lawyers, and doctors involved in her care for 15 years haven't seen it.

Has he not let her teeth be brushed or taken into the sun? That's basic medical care and I'm surprised any hospice or rehab center would agree to that.

You couldn't be more RIGHT. Senator Levin (D) was the primary reason that Senate Bill was a watered down version of the House's.

James Sensenbrenner did a bang up job on the House Bill. I'm sorry his version didn't prevail.

If there is trouble with this "compromise" it is doubtful the Senate and the House will repeat their efforts.
