Just heard on Fox that U.S. Senate will convene today in emergency session regarding Terri Schiavo.
As a matter of fact, they will make sure they have the right judge to do just that -- they will not take a chance on potluck on this issue would be my bet.
They have to have federal jurisdiction to handle this no matter how many people want it to happen immediately. Getting them all back from Easter recess is nothing short of a miracle.
Then I had to suit up for the format police and, lo, the thing formatted itself. And then I couldn't find the crucial quote blah blah.
If I caused anyone a problem, I apologize. No matter what you post, somebody isn't going to like it, and you didn't climb all over me like some people do, so I only felt a teeny bit hurt that my contribution wasn't as appreciated as it might have been.
The sure way not to get flamed is not to post.
Oh, and it did flicker through my mind about the copyright issue, but it has been posted in its entirety here before by another and has no doubt expired in the google archives back before the excerpt police squad went into full riot gear here (of necessity).
I don't know if CNN archived it that far back or not.
So there you have it, I am way behind on this thread now and won't be able to catch up.
Correction
and yet have utterly no understanding that WITHOUT LIFE, liberty means nothing.
"They're human and capable of erring but their sincerity cannot be questioned."
So very well stated. I could see that sincerity in the very determined looks in their eyes during the press conference.
They are trying very hard to find a way to save her.
Also, while I think that it's wonderful that FR has come together for Terri, there's too much of people jumping down each others' throats.
That makes two of us -- well stated. I have been absolutely shocked at some of the comments I have seen on here. This States Right mantra is getting on my nerves as well not to mention dissing of the Declaration of Independence as some document that means nothing.
The only thing I want Congress to do is make sure that they following the Rule of Law in getting this into the federal jurisdiction. Then the US Attorney can act -- right now he is powerless without a law to back him up -- ditto a federal judge. US Attorney was getting dissed unfairly IMHO. Blame should have been placed squarely where it belongs -- to name a few the husband, his lawyers, hospice, the FL Supreme Court who overturned the previous law and said Jeb couldn't do anything.
Congress should not have had to get involved. What I want to know is how many of these Freepers that are saying for the Feds to stay out are from Florida and fought to remove members of the FL Supreme Court after the 2000 debacle.
My two cents!
"That offer was probably a blatant Felos lie"
You're right. Thank you.
*smacks self in forehead* Why didn't I think of that?
Refusing the money would make Michael look like the saint that he is. /sarcasm
A woman I know was FURIOUS absolute FURIOUS with me because of my position on Terri. She told me her family had to make a similar decision. I think some of these zealous anti-Terri types have guilty consciences. Why else are they so hysterical?
You've got to realize though, that the Florida death squad would think that is perfectly okay too. Today, starvation and dehydration; tomorrow, lethal injection. One agenda driven step at a time.
Amazing...a couple of months ago I went to a Terri thread thinking it would be a good place to get information. I made a comment about what an awful guy Michael was and I got flamed for not being vehement enough and calling him an evil monster. That was my first taste. For crying out loud I was agreeing with them!!
I am on a hunger strike. Stopped eating when they took Terri's feeding tube out. But I have been drinking water. I am starting to feel a little weak and sick AND I HAVE BEEN DRINKING WATER!!!!!!!!!!!! What hell must Terri be going through. THIS IS AWFUL!!!!!!!! Poor Terri! Poor Schindlers. I can't believe this is happening AGAIN!! God bless the congress but JEB BUSH HAS TO DO SOMETHING NOW! I can start eating any time I want to but Terri has got to be suffering and her poor parents have to stand around helpless and watch this murder take place before their very eyes. There is going to have to be a revolt of some kind. They can't wait around for another two days while Terri is dying. This is monstrous.
I couldn't believe some of the callers I just heard on C-Span. The monsters!! They are demented. Evil. God help us all.
Heavenly Father - Please help Terri to survive this insulting violation of her rights. Please cause her feeding tube to be re-instated today. Whatever it takes. In Jesus Christ's Name - Amen.
Why else, indeed.
Compare that to the days of being parched and hungry, of having one's tongue swell up, of seizures, swallowing and breathing difficulties...
I'm sorry about your mother. Her last conscious thoughts are sad though; fortunately her suffering seems to have been brief which isn't the case for all aneurysm patients. Step father-in-law died of one and lingered uncomfortably to say the least after failed surgery. Little girl from church, 6 years old, taken just last week from one. Wasn't particularly brief or painless. Headaches alerted the parents and by the time they helicoptered her to the major center for that, she died shortly after. All very sad.
But between your mother and Terri, there is no comparison suffering-wise. I lost my mother within a half day and the shock was horrible but some said it was better that way. Later, much later, I've come to see maybe that is so.
And that's enough on that subject for now. I'm older so I feeling these things breathing down my neck more than younger people. What would I want? For now, I just place my trust in God's mercy that He will decide how things will go . . .don't want to have to linger years like Terri but don't want to be starved and dehydrated either. May God be merciful with me and mine and the few enemies I have for that matter.
If we make killing the incapacitated somehow acceptable, investors in a new wave of "compassionate euthanasia parlors" will make an awful lot of money."
"That sounds even more profitable than a Planned Barrenhood franchise!"
You know, I've been trying to write novels for the past couple years. One of them is set in the not-so-distant future.
Suffice it to say, that when Baby Boomers start to put a lot of pressure on the health care system & insurance companies, etc., there will be a LOT of pressure for them to "die with dignity."
Not that I want to give away an "important detail" of my novel and risk never making any money on these stacks of paper sitting on my desk ;), I predict public service announcements on t.v. urging elderly people to "do the right thing."
This case makes me think that maybe I'm not so far off.
I do have the sense that Terri gets a reprieve because this is gruesome, and most people don't want to be seen as high-fiving it.
All of the players on the other side have an enormous disadvantage because they are trying to sell death as a good. We aren't that evil of a people to buy it, IMO. Additionally, the aesthetic surrounding them is extremely unatttrative, nobody in their right mind wants to be associated with it.
This is all traced to this one neurologist's ramblings.
It has been looked into and dismissed as BS.
As far as the rest of it, I wrote it off as gossip and perhaps worse.
Please don't get into that malarkey. If I were M. Shiavo, I would be slinging libel suits like darts.
Prayers offered up for the safety, health and comfort of Terri Schindler Schiavo, and for the Schindler family.
Hi jla,
thanks for posting that article to me.
