Arresting the child was ridiculous.
However, a quick spank on the bottom might have solved the 'tantrum' issue.

Can anyone out there tell me what the heck is going on in the State of Florida?
We have teachers having sex with underage students.
We had Elian Gonzalez snatched by Clinton's jackbooted thugs and sent to Castro's hell hole.
We have a judge who is hell bent on killing tortuously Terry Schiavo by removing her feeding tube.
We have environmentalists freaking over saving the turtles annual mating season and egg laying by making it unlawful for residents along their mating grounds use outdoor or even indoor lighting March through October.
We have Palm Beach Voters who really voted for Gore but couldn't tell if Gore's name was Buchannan's.
Now I wake up this fine Saturday and find out school teachers have arrested a five year old for having a candy hissy fit.

The 40-pound girl's hands were bound with plasic ties and her ankles in handcuffs.
All this for a 5 year old's temper tantrum.
Sad.

Officials said the girl threw books and boxes, kicked a teacher in the shins, smashed a candy dish, hit an assistant principal in the stomach and drew on the walls. She was upset when a teacher took away jelly beans she was counting in a math exercise at Fairmount Park Elementary School It's time to issue tasers to teachers.

"No charges were filed and the girl went home with her mother, who said her daughter will not return."
The girl shouldn't have been there in the first place. If the parent(s) haven't taught the child to act appropriately by the time they're five, they should hold them back from school. No one wants to deal with an uncontrollable brat when they're obviously not ready to participate.
To: ShadowDancer
My reaction is this is exactly the type of "mother" that would go to school and attack the teacher herself.
This kid is beyond a quick spank on the bottom. She needs to be removed from that violent prone home and helped. I hate to suggest removing her but it seems she is already on the way to major anti-social stuff.

hit an assistant principal in the stomach I've been punched in the stomach by a prodigiously large 5 year old. It was somewhat less annoying than the "I'm not touching you" game, and only slightly more of a risk of damage.

She was upset when a teacher took away jelly beans she was counting in a math exercise Something sounds really strange here.
It sounds as though possession of the Jellybeans was sanctioned, but that somewhere along the way the rules changed.

the girl went home with her mother, who said her daughter will not return. In her words, "They set my baby up."

Yet there is the likely problem right in that quote. This poor child has a childish, likely racist mother who says things like this rather than deal with the problem her child clearly has. And that problem is likely no parenting.
Her child threw a tantrum, should not have been arrested but should have been disciplined by first the school and then when she arrived on the scene her parent.

I can think of several occasions when I have had to hold a five year old who was having an out of control tantrum. The child, having the tantrum, would kick, scream, hit, bite, and throw objects like desks and chairs. They were a danger to myself and the other children. All of them occurring while I worked in day care.
Only the fact that I was twice their size allowed me to control them. How I would have loved calling the cops and putting those children in restraints. Such children should be taken out of school and their mothers forced to take care of them.

Minutes later, she was under arrest for battery. The 40-pound girl's hands were bound with plasic ties and her ankles in handcuffs. I can see her security background application 30 years from now.
Please list all arrests: Age 5; Battery

Could not anyone have just grabbed the Kid by the scruff of the neck, and torn her little butt up? Nothing serious, just to the point of grabbing her attention.
Watch for this Kid on down the line, she will be in the news again, and it will not be due to positive contributions to society.
