Friday Night Lights In Texas May Soon Be Free Of Sexy Cheerleaders
Schools' Funding Would Be Reduced
POSTED: 7:54 am EST March 18, 2005
AUSTIN, Texas -- One Texas lawmaker wants high school cheerleaders to keep it clean. State Rep. Al Edwards of Houston is proposing a law to ban dirty dancing by cheerleaders. Edwards wants to put an end to "sexually suggestive" performances by cheerleaders at athletic events and other extracurricular competitions. Edwards is outraged by the way cheerleaders are "shaking their behinds and going on, breaking it down." "And then we say to them, 'don't get involved in sex unless it's marriage or love, it's dangerous out there' and yet the teachers and directors are helping them go through those kind of gyrations." He said it's hypocritical for educators to teach sexual abstinence, while condoning all sorts of bumping and grinding on the sidelines. Under the Houston Democrat's bill, the state education commissioner could reduce a school district's state funding if it knowingly permits sexy cheerleading. Edwards said he filed the bill as a result of several instances of seeing such ribald performances in his district. J.M. Farias with the Austin Cheer Factory said cheerleading aficionados would welcome the law. He said cheering competitions penalize for suggestive movements or any vulgarity. Although cheerleaders must meet the same no-pass, no-play academic requirements of athletes, cheerleading is not a competition sanctioned by the University Interscholastic League, the governing body of Texas high school sports.

Now this is just stupid! Some legislator says, "I do not like it so I am going to put a stop to it." I am sorry, but if you want to put a stop to anything, stop predators from living among us where they have ample opportunity to rape and kill out children. Stop adulterous husbands from strarving their wives to death. Be outraged about that, not something as silly as this. Don't you have some lobbies money to spend or something?

How about the blonde in the third picture down...second row, in the middle...she's too "sexy" for her outfit...

The first one in that row is a little hefty too.
Some schools have a policy of letting any girl who wants to, to be on the squad. Sort of equal opportunity for fat ugly girls.

The rich have their socially acceptable girly Q in the ballet, the red necks their socially acceptable girly Q at friday football with the high school cheer leaders. So what are you going to do the young males are showing their manhood on the football field so are you going to keep the girls in a closet.

Good for Edwards. Though I think this sort of thing is best handled by complaints from viewers - and especially complaints from parents of cheerleaders - not top-down legislation.
To: Stoat
Edwards needs to be stopped before he does any real damage.

I wouldn't take my kids to see most high school cheerleaders these days.My concern hasn't anything to do with their sexiness. It's the incredibly dangerous stunts they perform. I saw a petite girl nearly hit the floor from a dozen feet in the air a few weeks back. Her mates caught her six inches from the floor. Every year they seem to get a little more daring. Sooner or later, someone will break a neck.

Sad to see that so many "conservative" FReepers so enthusiastically support the live kiddy-porn shows that so much of HS cheerleading has become. No wonder HS kids are having mixed gender sleepovers at their parents homes while the parents thoughtfully spend the night away in a hotel so as not to inhibit the kiddo's fun and games.
The history of Rome's rise and fall should be ample warning, but not many Americans are paying attention. Historically, as a nation's moral standard declines so does it's power and standing in the world community. At the accelerating rate the US moral standard has gone downhill since I was in HS, we should be in the 2nd rank of nations along with the UK and France in one or two more generations. May as well get used to looking up to Red China now as the world's #1 superpower and avoid the rush later.

I sure hope to God that you are not referring to me in this "FReeper" generalization. I don't go to High School games anymore ever since my kids graduated.
And the first I've heard of this oversexed cheerleader stuff is today on this forum.
So I don't know what "conservatives" you directing this at, but next time maybe you should address them.
My comments were meant to be a shot at humor and nothing more.
