DeLay Pledges Contempt Charge for Terri Judge

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."

"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.

Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."

"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.

Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.

But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."

The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.

DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."

In the Ten Commandments case Ann Coulter and Michele Malkin have a good discussion on the case. I recommend anyone to read them.

Terri's case is an entirely different situation. An innocent woman is sentenced to a horrific death. She has been denied due process. The Judge has destroyed documents and will not allow an investigation of abuse done to her, and he has ordered no autopsy. And a Scott Peterson type of estranged husband with a live-in mistress and pathological hatred for her and her family has been assigned as her guardian.

"W"'s basis for sending in the troops to secure Pinellas County is very simple ~ the local government is in a state of rebellion against the Congress of the United States.

Lincoln had no problem responding to the rebels at Fort Sumter ~ this President should have no greater difficulty in doing that.

It's Greer who has made himself into a traitor, and any court that sided with him should be subjected to the same treatment.

President Bush should send in the Texas Rangers, the National Guard and a few good proud and bold marines to save Terry from murder.

If that's true, why hasn't the State of Florida arrested Michael Schiavo?

Can you say, "Stonewall?"

"Clinton had a Federal Court ruling on his side."

Easy to get too when "all your Federal Court judges are belong to them!"

of course action could have and should have been taken long ago.

And now we have all these trolls trying to disrupt discussion by bringing up such absurd comparisons as equating Terri's situation to gay marriage.

Hi, kimmie! You were a big part of those threads! It was fall of 2003 (sorry I don't have the date - I'm on my husband's laptop and don't have it saved on his). There was a gigantic thread - over 5,000 posts where a ton of research was posted. I'll find and post a link when I get home (Sunday).

Well, CNN just had a blurb that lawyers for the House have asked the USSC to order that the feeding tube be re-inserted.

I thought the Supremes already ruled on this? They're going to swat this request away like a fly.

Arrogant, is the word used to describe Greer. He ignored an order from Congress. Congress makes laws. They don't go about "ordering" people around. And it is arrogance, if not delusion, on their part to think they can do so.

"The professor said Judge Greer's decision was "shocking" because there isn't anything near "clear and convincing" evidence of Terri's wishes - only the husband's memory, offered years after she'd first become disabled, of a casual comment she made while watching TV."

Moreover, when people make such statements as to whether they want to live or die, they make them lightly with no real substance behind them. Often such statements are neither taken seriously by the person uttering them nor by the people who hear them.

Furthermore, if Terri did indeed make the casual statement that she wants to die in such circumstance, although I doubt it very much she did, her wish then (15 years ago?) may contradict her wishes now.

What I have learned from the investigative reporting at that website has grayed my hair.

TheEmpireJournal.com is absolutely dead on in its breathtaking connection of the dots in this HORRIFIC travesty of corruption, greed and cover-up leading to the willingness of our court system to EUTHANIZE an innocent human being.

Simply the lack of ANY TESTING for Terri in the last TWELVE years of her life, the horrific way michael has made her l with the courts permission, the MEDICAID FRAUD, all of it........SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO PUT GREER and MICHAEL and FELOS behind bars.

Personally, I think the judge should be required to sit by Terri's bedside until she dies, and his only food intake is via a feeding tube.

Why does he get food if she doesn't?

"In the Ten Commandments case Ann Coulter and Michele Malkin have a good discussion on the case. I recommend anyone to read them."

As much as I like Ann and Michele I really do not need their points to make my mind up about the relevancy of the status of the 10 Commandments. The 10 Commandments cases are for me more a point of sifting the wheat from the chaff and unfortunately there appears to be a heap more chaff than wheat.

I wasn't the one who brought up the 10 Commandments, someone else brought that case into this discussion as a compare and contrast to what FReepers think.

"Terri's case is an entirely different situation. An innocent woman is sentenced to a horrific death. She has been denied due process. The Judge has destroyed documents and will not allow an investigation of abuse done to her, and he has ordered no autopsy. And a Scott Peterson type of estranged husband with a live-in mistress and pathological hatred for her and her family has been assigned as her guardian."

While the cases specifically are different, they are in a since similar because if the 10 Commandments were the criteria, then we would not be having this discussion about starving Terri. I heard today that it was 7 years after this woman was injured that her hubby decided that it was time to pursue his case of ending her life, because he remembered she had said she didn't want to live like this.

Worse than the trolls are the long-standing, supposedly conservative Freepers (I've counted 10 or so) who are rooting for her heinous husband. It's sickening.
