House Majority Leader Tom DeLay pledged Friday to hold Florida state judge George Greer in contempt of Congress for ignoring a congressional subpoena for Terri Schiavo's testimony, saying, "No little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress."
"The Congress will pursue this, if we have to hold him in contempt of Congress," DeLay told radio host Sean Hannity.
Pressed on whether he intended to hold Judge Greer in contempt, the top Republican told Hannity: "Absolutely, absolutely."
"We will do everything to enforce the power and authority of the Congress and no little judge sitting in a state district court in Florida is going to usurp the authority of Congress," he added.
Earlier in the day Judge Greer rebuffed the Schiavo subpoena, telling attorneys in the case, "I have had no cogent reason why the [congressional] committee should intervene." He claimed that the last-minute action on the part of Congress does not nullify years of legal proceedings.
But DeLay told Hannity, "This judge and the Supreme Court of Florida are well known to be liberal judges that have a different worldview and they're imposing their worldview on the law."
The top House leader said that "no sane person" could look at Schiavo and say she's in a persistent vegetative state.
DeLay called a lawyer for Michael Schiavo, who has pressed for years to have his wife starved to death, "the personification of evil."
I knew this day would come three weeks ago, and it's unfortunate that Congress inserted itself into the equation.
Liberals may not defend living people, but they are real good at defending dead horses. [/sarcasm]
SENATOR FEINSTEIN'S HORSE SLAUGHTER BILL , makes sure that the bodies of dead American horses are not fed to foreigners.
He said this in such a way that you knew he was insuating since not that many people were there, that it appears the public don't really care so why is congress getting involved.
Try this one.
What does Florida law say about a guardian who "may have a conflict of interest"?
And this one.
MAY a man with a common law wife, two children and a million dollars in his other wifes trust fund have a conflict of interest?
Poor job of pretending to be a conservative.
I see that now. They were fine when I previewed.
The first one is some of the Nazi nurses on trial in Nuremburg (sp?) The second one is the same nurses hanging by the neck.
Contempt? How about murder!
Schiavo's Feeding Tube Removed ...Mrs. Schiavo's feeding tube has been removed twice before but both times it has been reinserted. Congressional Republicans tried a last ditch attempt to prolong Terri Schiavo's life when they subpoenaed the woman to appear before a committee. According to court appointed doctors [other doctors say that she is brain damaged, but conscious], Mrs. Schiavo is an a permanent vegetative state and could not give meaningful testimony. The United States Supreme Court has declined to intervene in the case. For now, the feeding tube has been removed. 30 protesters remain outside the hospice holding a vigil for Terri Schiavo. She continues to wait in silence... |
Media Ignore Fight for Woman's Life ...The extent of her brain damage is the focus of considerable dispute.
Within months of the original jury award, Michael Schiavo insisted that Terri not be resuscitated if the need arises. Fortunately for her, it has not. Michael, his brother and his brother's wife had testified that Terri had confided that she would not want her life sustained using such methods upon which she now depends. This wish was not related to the original malpractice jury - they were told that Terri had a normal life expectancy and that funding was required for ongoing medical care. Terri's parents thus became skeptical of Michael's motives and petitioned to have him removed as guardian in July 1993. The petition was denied. For his part, Michael has been litigating to stop feeding his wife since May 1998, spending an estimated $600,000 in legal fees to achieve his objective... ...Michael has a fiancé, Jodi Centonze with whom he has been living for nearly seven years. They have produced one child together and another is on the way. Rather than seeking divorce [which would remove him as an heir], Michael plans to marry Centonze upon Teri's death. Florida Circuit Court judge George Greer ruled that artificial feeding be halted in February 2000. He further ordered that part of the original malpractice award pay for security to protect Teri from being fed by her family [and for his own personal protection]. After more than a year of litigation, the feeding was discontinued in April 2001 and, after a series of hearings and motions, resumed after 60 hours of starvation/dehydration. The litigation continued. Terri's parents insist that she is mentally impaired, but not a 'vegetable.' They have posted videos of her looking at and responding to people around her, but Michael's doctors insist her reactions are merely unconscious reflexes. Judge Greer would not allow Terri to be examined or treated by any doctors not approved or selected by Michael Schiavo or himself... |
Yup, these activist judges that pander to the culture of death, will someday stand before the eternal judge of Heaven and earth.
Personally, I think the judge should be required to sit by Terri's bedside until she dies, and his only food intake is via a feeding tube.
Who tried to kill her? Who has extreme conflicts of interest? AND ON AND ON? That's like saying a child molester foster father should decide on whether the molested child continues to live with him.
What a joke!
But they can impeach him!
Arrogance isn't the word we use for, courage. Arrogant, is the word used to describe Greer. He ignored an order from Congress. That's what should concern you, and bother you. I hope to some degree, that is does. And the real irony is that he expects others NOT to ignore him. But given what he just did, by that very example, by his own example, I have to wonder - where is Jeb? Jeb should be busy IGNORING Greer. Terri shouldn't be starving to death right now. The execution should have been stayed in one way or another. If he wanted to intervene, I'm sure he knows ways to do so. But he hasn't. The Fed did his job, instead. Tom Delay.
What the hell have we wrought? 300,000 laws to enforce the Ten Commandments. This is a crossroads for the Country, IMO. Using the Law (probate?) as the refuge to off this woman is an abomination. There is no way that a person with such an obvious conflict of interest as her husband should be allowed to make this decision. This is the road to perdition. Dred Scott was bad law, acting against it was right and good. Acting against the murder of this woman is right and good. God speed to the President or anyone else who is able to stop this. Mr. President, pull an Eisenhower and do it sooner rather than later.
I guess the truth does that to people.
Then why isn't Tom DeLay going to a federal judge to get a stay?
Could it be that the federal judge would not intervene in this state court decision?
The judge should have done it himself if he was so gung-ho to see Terry die.
"Myself, I think that it is witness elimanition."
Yes! It definitely is!
Time to trim the membership ~ no sense in a church hanging onto those already on a one way slide into "Outer Darkness".
George ["Starving Judge"] Greer is the arrogant one.
