DALLAS -- One man was arrested and a warrant was issued for another in a shooting at a highway intersection that killed three men and critically wounded a fourth, police said Thursday.

Jimmy Aristides Velasquez, 20, was arrested late Wednesday in Irving, said police in the Dallas suburb of University Park. He is accused of driving the white Jaguar from which the fatal shots were fired.

Police Capt. Leon Holman said an arrest warrant was issued for Israel Barretero, 21, of Dallas, who's accused of shooting from the car's sunroof.

Police said each man faces two counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault.

Killed in the predawn shooting Tuesday were 36-year-old Eddie Pech, 21-year-old Bernardo Andrade and 19-year-old Favio Andrade.

Osvaldo Juarez is in Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas in stable condition, Holman said.

Police said they believe a fight at a popular college bar led to the shooting. The shootings happened along a Dallas highway Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers are still searching for a second suspect.

Sorry about that - I made the determination from the news broadcast that showed the location; it was clearly on the SB access road, just north of Mockingbird.

OK, here's another update.

"Fernando Balderas, the owner of a vehicle police say was used in an early morning ambush that left three men dead and another injured, implicated his half brother in the shootings, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

"Police were still searching for Israel Barretero, 21, of Dallas late Thursday. Balderas told investigators that Barretero called him shortly after the shootings Tuesday morning to tell him that he had been "involved in a shootout and shot up the victims," according to the affidavit.

"The shooting suspects apparently waited for the victims to leave the bar, then ambushed them at a stoplight on the southbound service road of North Central Expressway at Mockingbird Lane, Holman said."

"Investigators continue to investigate how the men got such a powerful weapon, which was found stashed in a back yard a few miles from the home of one of the suspects.

""Is an SKS [assault rifle] that easy to come by? If you're on the street and you've got the money, someone can provide you with almost anything," Capt. Holman said.

"Joel Armijo, a next-door neighbor and car aficionado, recalls seeing a white Jaguar parked outside Mr. Velasquez's house Monday afternoon. The fancy car was a rare sight in the blue-collar neighborhood.

""I told my wife, 'Wow, look at that car,' " Mr. Armijo said. "It's the type of car people like us can't afford."

OK, enough of this tripe from the DMN. First of all, an SKS is not an assault rifle. A 2000 Jaguar S-Type is only worth about $10K, at best - well within the means of most people. The writer's trying to work the gang or career criminal angle, and they don't have any evidence. The police are still saying that there's no gang connection that they can find.
