Former Green Beret Commander Bo Gritz is trying to conduct a citizen's arrest of the Terri Schindler Schiavo's husband and the judge presiding in the case before the handicapped Florida woman is scheduled to have her feeding tube removed so she can be legally starved to death. The 66-year-old retired Army Lt. Colonel with his wife, Judy, arrived in Florida from their home in Nevada yesterday with the intent of arresting anyone involved in removing the woman's feeding tube that keeps her alive. He came bearing a notarized "citizen's arrest warrant" addressed to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush Attorney General Charlie Crist. He said his intent is to "papering" state and federal law enforcement offices with his warrant today a day before Circuit Court Judge George Greer has ordered the denial of food and water to Terri Schiavo. Gritz says the "arrest" is designed to allow officials additional options as the Florida governor and legislature maneuver to save the woman from starvation. Gritz says he successfully used the arrest-tool against federal law enforcement in August 1992 when he intervened in the siege at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and brought what was left of Randy Weaver's family down the hill without further bloodshed. Sammy, the 14-year-old Weaver boy, was killed along with his mother, Vicki, and U.S. Marshal William Degan. Randy Weaver and another man, Kevin Harris, were wounded by police gunfire. Gritz secured the services of renowned defense lawyer Gerry Spence, and the U.S. Department of Justice paid the Weavers $3.2 million in an out-of-court settlement. Harris was awarded more than $300,000. Citing his officer's oath of allegiance to "defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic," Gritz says while he doesn't know Terri Schiavo personally, she nevertheless represents an American in danger of citizen-rights abuse, and he feels an obligation to act while she remains alive. Besides a "Terri-Bill" under consideration in the U.S. Congress, the Florida Legislature votes tomorrow on a modified measure to keep Terri's life-support in place. A previous Florida bill was ruled unconstitutional barring further intervention by Gov. Bush. While threatened with arrest at Ruby Ridge, the decorated war hero instead walked away with FBI letters of appreciation.
I would just add, that I made the point that I was sourcing ADL, and due to that fact, suggested others do their own research if they did not trust the source..
Further, ADL has lawyers..
While they may freely express opinion, when it comes to doing biographical information on an individual, they are fully aware that all information presented as facts must be "backed up"... with documented, reliable truth...
Why?
Because there are lawyers...
There are lawsuits..
There are charges of libel and defamation of character..
Rest assured, there are articles and various and sundry other documents on the internet (and in print) that are far more severe in their characterization of Bo Gritz..
ADL is mild in comparison..
>If the press or the cops see a bunch of Christian Identity/neo-Nazis descending on this, all sympathy among the general population will evaporate. GUARANTEED it will evaporate among lawmakers. That's fact.<
I agree with you. This guy is not going to help in the slightest. The last thing Terri needs is some grandstander, with ties to white supremacists, preening before a bunch of journalists.
Agreed.
There might be some lurkers who would like additional information, as well.
You are known by the friends you keep and he's kept some pretty nasty company. However, why is it the fringe element types always seem to do the things that I know other people should do. You know what I mean. There are plenty of Green Beret veterans who can go do the same.
Don't be, It's a common tactic on "Terri" threads.
Play Junior Prosecutor to impugn and smear anyone presenting an opinion or facts you don't care to deal with. Try to get them mad so they'll get abusive, and then attempt to get them banned. "Label" them in the hope that anything they say will be discarded.
It happens almost constantly. Then people wonder why FReepers like me have a hard time with the tactics used, and their overall effect.
At least there is some comic relief to this sad story.
Maybe because when the rhetoric reaches the inflammatory nature it has in this case, the fringe feels that it would be welcome?
The types of fringers we're talking about here find fertile ground in hothouses of emotion and craziness like this.
More than that, I have second-hand experience.
The guy's a fed, painted up to look like a militia fellow.
Be aware: Gritz only has neo-Nazi supporters because he infiltrated them.
I will therefore, "pile on" another source, and make their job even harder..
One question we must ask is why would Randy Weaver contact Bo Gritz a month before the tragedy? Weaver had obviously anticipated the shootout, but what gave him the impression that Gritz would be allied with him in his war against "the ZOG"?
And why was Gritz the only person, aside from the skinheads at the roadblock, whom he thought he could trust during the standoff?
We would not likely consider these questions at all, had it not been for the Nazi salute Gritz gave to the skinheads at the vigil.
The former Green Beret colonel later complained that news reports of his salute were false, and that he was merely waving to the crowd. Televised accounts, howver, leave no doubt.
He recognized the skinheads and executed the salute. They returned the _sieg-heil_ in perfect Nazi fashion and then signalled thumbs up.
From the same document.. Conclusions:
1) Gritz ran for Vice President with David Duke.
2) Gritz is on the advisory board of the Populist Action Committee, one of the Liberty Lobby spawned organizations. In this organization, Gritz is working with likes of Eustace Mullins, author of virulently anti-Jewish propaganda and a source Gritz recommends.
3) Gritz accepted financing and other assistance from Christian Identity followers of Pete Peters, who espouses racist teachings and distributes anti-Jewish propaganda. Gritz has praised Peters and spoken as a special guest at his Christian Identity camp.
4) Gritz works in a coalition with Christian Identity activist Richard Flowers, who also espouses racist ideas and distributes anti-Jewish propaganda.
5) Gritz gave a Nazi salute to skinheads agitating on behalf of Randy Weaver, a Christian Identity believer.
I have yet to see any of Gritz's supporters refute any one of these points with independently verifiable evidence.
In my opinion, about all that remains is for Gritz himself to shout "Sieg-Heil" in front of the cameras.
End quote from article..
I would further point out that Gritz was kicked out of the Mormon Church..
Kicked out... He did not just "leave"
Terri doesn't need people like him :(
What a nutcase.
If you've got a story, I'm all ears, but I'll admit to being skeptical of ANYTHING like that with regard to Gritz.
I'll listen, though.
Ping to #152
You were specifically denying that such a thing would happen.
These are claims made by Gritz himself...
You won't find any verification of that in any federal documents or press releases..
Did he run for President some time ago on a third party ticket??
