In perhaps one of the longest policy battles ever, an amendment introduced by Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) to strike the provision from the Appropriations Bill authorizing drilling in a small section of ANWR passed despite the defection of seven Republicans: Senators Chafee, Coleman, Collins, DeWine, McCain, Smith, and Snowe.
Although the battle for drilling in ANWR is far from over, since the House bill doesn't have the same provision and, as such, a conference to reconcile the two bills followed by a second vote will take place, does this vote increase or decrease the influence of RINOs?
Question: On the Cantwell Amendment to strike section 201(a)(4) relative to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

LA being a big oil state, i guess she had to vote for it.
That was the Keating Five, and the crooked McCain is STILL trying to clean up his disgraceful legacy. Apparently, his success with the "stop-me-before-I-get-bought-off-again" campaign finance reform legislation wasn't enough. So nowadays he bides his time pandering to the scumbags of the liberal press and playing his stupid "maverick Senator" role that they love so much. (Ever hear the scumbag liberal press refer to Zell Miller as a "maverick"? No. Only liberal Republicans get that moniker.)
McQueeg is NO hero at all. Please read the archived threads about him and his stay in the Hanoi Hilton in FR's archives. Just because someone was a prisoner of war, does NOT make him a "hero".
Or, conversely, she may have decided, with the help of her liberal constituents, that it is better to drill Alaska than Louisiana.
Alaska used to belong to Russia until the US govt. purchased it. So Alaska might be a special case.
McCain is more of a plane-crasher, than hero.
Hey, as much as I disagree with McCain on issues so he can get TV time. He suffered in NAM and deserves respect for heroic service, unlike a certain Presidential candidate from Massachusetts who dirted on his fellow soldiers.
That's Sen Landrieu!? That little slip of a girl's a United States senator? That looks like a high school graduation picture to me!
I detest conspiracies, but I sometimes suspect the fear of that tape being made public is how the Democrats keep McCain in line.
I really think McCain is a nut. He has such a knee-jerk reaction to everything (e.g. SwiftBoatVets) and never seems to consider the consequences. I'd had to be put in a position of having to think of voting for him.
Sorry: I'd HATE to be put in a position of having to think of voting for him.
I think Coleman is going to try for a presidenial run... '08? hmmm... His votes of late seem odd. I know he used to be a democrat but, something seems wrong.
Well considering that the state was bought as a teritory from Russia by the federal government, and then turned some of the land over to us after Statehood, they have not confiscated teh land.
So are the Louisiana territories.
I just found out that it was Eisenhower who made the ANWR a federally protected land. He also nominated Brennan to the Supreme Court. Damn RINOs.
AMEN!
Coleman made a campaign promise to the farmers to oppose ANWR and promote gasahol.
There were clearly some tradeoffs here, and I bet the guys in Hawaii traded off their "yes" votes (so they could say they were trying to hold down gas prices) to people like DeWine, who want to say they are "environmentalists." Still, it shows you the value of a bigger majority in the senate. The Dems are in heap big trouble.
