Special operations forces to be honored at NASCAR race March 20 U.S. Army Special Operations Command Public Affairs Office Wednesday, February 9 2005
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service) - For the second consecutive year, warriors from the U.S. Special Operations Command will be honored during the pre-race excitement of NASCAR's Golden Corral 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway March 20.
Race fans will be treated to a demonstration by special operations forces that will be capped off with the scheduled arrival of the race's official pace car inside an MH-47 Chinook helicopter from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). Demonstration participants will include special operators from the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. Leading the special operations demonstration will be Lt. Gen. Philip R. Kensinger Jr., commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command here. In addition to the 160th SOAR (Abn), the storied Green Berets will represent the Soldiers of USASOC. Air commandos from the U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla., and Navy SEALS from the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command, San Diego, Calif., will also be represented. In addition to the Chinook helicopter, other aircraft scheduled to be included in the demonstration include MH-60 Black Hawk and MH-6 Little Bird helicopters and an MC-130 Combat Talon aircraft. If you would like to pick new drivers for this week's race (Golden Corral 500), you must make your changes by Fri Mar 18 5:00am EST.
Time to tighten the lug nuts!

Hey WCG,
Didn't know whether to respond on this thread or the other, settled for this one. Last comment on the penalties, or rather the article you posted, and I will drop it.
In reference to Nascar wanting to be compared to other "sports". Nascar evolved from illegal activity in the FIRST place. Now, about wanting to be compared to the others, like baseball, where the players are appearing before Congress about steroid use/abuse, like football where some of the participants are defendants in murder and drug trials, or like hockey, which is NOT this year.
There is no comparison.

06:20 GMT is 1:20 AM in Atlanta. I think something's not right here, unless this is night racing at a ridiculous time.
To: Mr. Mulliner
Track temp should be stable about then. :)

OOOPPPPSSS make that 18:20GMT
Sorry
glock and tubebender started all this GMT stuff the other day.

Chef, I wasn't too concerned. I know the race is sunday afternoon, and sunday races start at 1ish, so it just depends on the time zone. I was joking about the gmt conversion chart. Besides, as a former USCG watchstander, I am familiar with GMT.
I like the change of pace. It keeps us all on our toes and thinking.

However, we do have the ugly incidents like basketbrawl. Remember when Jeff Gordon won on a yellow flag finish a couple years back and fans were chucking everything including coolers onto the track.
That said, the combined criminal records of all the Cup, Busch & Truck series drivers is probably shorter than the average single NBA team.

I hear ya. I think this race will be the best of the year. Fast track, small spoilers. I am having a tough time with picks. What do you think. What does Bo think?

Here's a link to an article re: a book about cheating in Nascar. Very interesting.

I will be in San Antonio until tomorrow night, probably miss qualifying. :( (can't wait to get out of there and get on to our vacation destination on Saturday)
BTW, go Rocketman!! This is an impound track so things could get rather interesting since qualifying is at night, impound immediately and the race is during the heat of the day on Sunday. Nascar better be ready to accept responsibility for any accidents that may occur due to this stupid impound idea of theirs.

I'm not going to see Bo until later on this afternoon... I think I'll go home with a package of rib-eyes to remind him that there is life beyond sleeping on the garage floor and dry Atta Boy. After three straight losses, last in points, it's probably time to reinstate him.
