What is your tale on all of the penalties and suspensions for rule infractions? Do you think it will continue until eventually they take away wins? I am just looking for opinions.
To: Jersey Republican Biker Chick
tale = take. Duh, my fingers have a mind of their own.
To: Jersey Republican Biker Chick
My opinion is the old days if you got caught cheating they took the win away or pulled you from that finishing spot and everybody else moved up to fill those finishing positions but now NUTSCAR is more interested in $$$ than doing what is RIGHT.
Also look at the end of this

With the way NASCAR has changed rules lately, there is no real answer to the question.
That said, Berrier should have been suspended for the season.

I think what Berrier did was wrong, I agree that the suspension should have been longer. I think that the win should have been taken away from Johnson. Technically the first legal car was Kurt Bush. I am no fan of his, but he was the first to cross the finish line with a legal car since his brother failed inspection also.
To: Jersey Republican Biker Chick
Both the 48 & 5 became illegal as a result of jacking the car around (adjusting wedge) if I am not mistaken. It has to be real hard for a crew chief to placate a driver of an ill handling car and know to the millimeter if you will be in violation of a roof or fender height rule. I hardly blame them.

That looks relaxing!
Any hope that Jr. will pull it together for this race?
Out of the 5 races he's been in here, he's won once & finished in top 5 twice more.

I agree. KB is not my favorite either but his was the first legal car. He was even required to come in to the pits during the race to correct what was thought to be illegal fenders. According to reports Biffle complained during the race to Nascar about this and they agreed. He was just lucky that a debris caution occurred just in time for him to make this correction. Things that make you go hmmmmm.
IMO they would not have fined Knaus $35,000 which is $10,000 more than Berrier if they didn't find a big problem.
The car is only allowed to be 51" with a 1/4" tolerance and failed that measurement. What convinced me other than the fine amount is that Knaus has been penalized before for having a car too low in post-race tech with another team.
Here is his bio......
Following the 1997 season, Knaus joined Dale Earnhardt, Inc. as car chief. During the 1998 season, he moved to Tyler Jet Motorsports, and in 1999, the call came that would lead Knaus to Dodge, Melling Racing and his ultimate career goal. Ray Evernham wanted Knaus to lead the Dodge Development team, an opportunity he quickly seized."
He also had quite a bit to do with Gordon's success in the mid 90s... This just strengthens my opinion that the #48 is about to go on a run like #24 did in the mid and late 90s, sadly. Fortunately, the "Chase" will mess with it.
"After cutting his teeth with Stanley Smiths stock car team, Knaus landed a job working on the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team led by crew chief Ray Evernham and driver Jeff Gordon. From 1993 to 1997, Knaus advanced from a general fabricator to manage the entire chassis and body construction program for the No. 24 team. Serving as a tire changer on the original Rainbow Warriors pit crew, Knaus was an integral part of the 1995 and 1997 NASCAR Cup Series Championship teams."
"Being creative is my job," crew chief Chad Knaus said when he earned his first major penalty in 2002. "If I am going to get fined and penalized for being creative, then that's just part of it.
If you flagrantly violate a rule by putting a jacking device in the car that makes it go up or down, then you're obviously trying to cheat. I read that JJ said the jack bolt broke. Well, maybe it did or is it convenient for it to break? More things that make you go hmmmm.

This IS his place to redeem himself, it's now or never so to speak.
His father loved this track and so does he, I'm counting on him to make a big comeback this week. :)
