Dear Freepers:
This is my first post here, and it may very well be my only one, but I wanted to just thank you all for being such a great resource for information on the Terri Schiavo case.
I usually come here when my blood pressure is just too low, because Id have to say I usually (okay, almost always) disagree with the views expressed here. (dons flame suit) But I admire you folks as a community of individuals who care about each other and about your country. While I disagree with most of the policies espoused here, you still are patriotic Americans and it shines through. There is clearly an intelligence to the discussion level here and I learn many facts.
Through lurking here on FR (and, lets be honest, that IS what Im doing :-) ), Ive gotten to learn so much about the Terri Schiavo case. As a third-year law student and one who has recently had the opportunity to watch the justice system at its absolute worst in a case involving a dear friend of mine, I am gravely concerned by the way Judge Greer has acted, and the ignoring of the misdeeds of Michael Schiavo. (Not to mention the darned videos of Terri, which so clearly show her to be responsive. Or the refusal of Michael S. or Greer to allow her to go through therapy. Or Michaels 1992 testimony I want to care for her for the rest of her life... (ugh) Or...well, I could go on.
Anyway, folks, the information yall have provided here on this issue has been terrific. Regardless of the outcome of this case, and I dont know that I have a whole lot of hope for a good outcome, I just wanted to say how much fun it is being on the same side of the fence with you all for once.
Now, if youll excuse me, Im going to go back to hugging a tree or putting on Birkenstocks or eating Ben & Jerrys, or whatever it is that people like me do.
Respectfully, gRATefully (just a tip of the hat to Freeper sensibilities), and with hope Terris life can be spared,
PleaseDontZotMe
so, just curious, do you lurk DU?
do you post there?
many Freepers sneak in occaisionally, and i think some lead a double life over there
the topics we discuss are complex and any opinion is welcome as long as we agree with it, when we finally figure out what it is
answering posts is one of the requirements and you are doing well
there is a rule, that you must follow, however
if you are a sexy babe, you must post a picture of yourself
Ach, the mysteries of life. :)
I just take a call 'em as I see 'em approach. I don't believe in slavish adherence to whatever any politician tells me, and when I disagree, well, that's fine, I disagree. It's just that I feel I agree with the Democratic perspective a lot more, and so I consider myself a Democrat.
No, it's three years, pretty much across the board. The best anyone can hope to do is escape in two and a half years, but you have to go full-time during two summers and forego any full-time employment during those summer months. And you save one semester. So, no, in short, it's three years.
Yeah, it's the "when time allows" thing.
And many thanks to your sons.
And great tag line!
I tend to agree with you this is less of an issue of politics and more of an issue of a failure of the courts. I draw my belief in that from the fact that, when I brought this case up to two of the most anti-abortion people I know, one of whom is my very Catholic grandmother and one of whom is a friend of mine who is a conservative Christian, they both were of the opinion that feeding should be discontinued. Neither knew much about the case. When I explained some of the particulars of the case and of Michael's bad behavior, they changed their points of view somewhat.
I wanted also to address your comment about "something off or strange about the way this has been handled." I guess that's a big part of why I am more interested in this case than I was a few years ago. I truly believe it involves a serious failure of the courts doing their work, and my interest in that stems from recent firsthand experience of watching my best friend, who was a terrific mother, lose her kids in a divorce to an absolute sleaze of a husband. His financial misconduct and alienation of the children was not only not punished but REWARDED, and the system was either unwilling or unable to stop it. It's been one of the most revolting things I've ever watched. I fear that Terri may be falling victim to the same problem.

LOL!
No, I don't, mainly for two reasons. First, because I find the graphical interface here sooooooo much more intuitive than the one at DU, although looking at it again, it seems slightly better.
Also, they won't let you register with a web-based only address, so that creates problems for me.
Plus, I guess I find it more interesting to read comments I disagree with than just sitting thee nodding my head in agreement all the time. :) (Although, I admit, sometimes I have to sign off of FR before I have a massive myocardial.)
Thanks for the post. And since you are so reasonable, why not come back from time to time. I mean there are so many trees that need a huggin' out there. :]
And, I assure you, I'm not a sexy babe.
..... and if that fails, there's always SQUISH power.Didn't hurt a bit. Show us "squish" .....
Can you believe all these horrible, violent pics being posted on this Terri thread? :^D
haha! Nuttin', honey. :^D
Brave talk from an Atrocious NMR distributor safe in his office......
Thank you for being so honest and thank you for the kind words about the Freepers. We DO all care for and support each other whenever and wherever we can. We may sometimes get emotional but that's becuase we truly care about what is happening in our world and to our people. Keep lurking...who knows? You may one day come around to our way of thinking. We'll always have room for one more. :) Let's hope this is a good day for Terri.
hehe! :^D
Amen.

i notice that they seem to have changed it since the last time i dropped in on them (election night, and it was a very interesing excursion, let me tell you, the posters at DU actually realized it was over long before any of the MSM)
