If the mainstream media are reminded of this whenever they call FR a "blog", they might get the message. Might take some time though seeing how they still refer to fanatical murdering thugs as "insurgents".

Why is it that we uneducated louts of the internet know the difference between a tabloid and a broadsheet, yet the literati of the MSM can't be bothered to learn the distinction between a blog and a forum?

Offhand, I'd say the inability to make the distinction is telling...

The part that cracks me up is that people hear that this is a "blog", so they sign up and start posting vanities in an attempt to jump onto the blogging bandwagon.

Then they start wondering why everyone flames them and posts pictures of cats in viking helmets and lightning bolts... it never fails to provide a good laugh or two.

Bloggers and First Amendment enthusiasts are exercised over the proposition that the federal government might begin to regulate blogs.

Am I the only one who found the use of this word peculiar in this context? Is there even a definition of the word "exercised" which extends it to be used as an adjective?

While we're confessing, I'm not from Florida. (Then again, I never claimed to be.)

classeygreeneyedgirl was a 50 something man,DeepInTheHuntingForest was NOT in the military and never had been, snowbunny was NOT a young, voluptuous woman and stole her profile from from many other people who actually did what she had calimed to have done, but didn't, and there've many more.

Like me.

I'm actually a 9 year old girl from Topeka, Kansas.

I'm very mannerly and I curtsy, and I don't have the hairy, nasty body of a man or thick, fumbling sausage-like fingers that routinely break the handles off of coffee cups at all. No no. I'm actually a sweet little girl in a paisley dress who says "Please" and "Thank You" and who's mother just ADORES me.

The Dinosaur Media just can't accept that their monoply (read: stranglehold) as gatekeepers of information is slipping away. Since they have perfected the hard mentatlity that no fact seems able to penetrate, they simply cannot fathom the notion that there are others outside "the club" who not only can, but WILL, challenge their versions of the day's events. The "great unwashed" are beginning to light torches and gather pitchforks, and suddenly the castle walls don't seem so impregnable.
Those who blog best will survive the shakeout, the rest will fade away. But all will serve the purpose of stirring things up, and transforming the stale glop that the Dinosaur Media feeds us.
Blog on!

No, you don't need a journalism degree, but you should have some sense of how news is organized, as in writing a lead sentence, constructing the facts in an interesting and factual manner and answering the who, what, when, where, why and how, within the first few paragraphs.

From what I've seen lately in the LSM ninety percent of the people with journalism degrees can't do any of the above. Most of the time I see better reporting from the folks on this forum than I do from our 'esteemed' press.

"Snarl-faced and glassy-eyed..."

Well, I have to admit I can be that way, too, sometimes-but usually only when I first wake up.

BTW, I'm really a nine-year-old child prodigy named Olaf from Sweden.

I for one am certainly glad that Free Republic is a forum and not a "blog."

One thing about this forum: If you post something, you damn well better have your facts and arguments straight.

Post something on here that isn't on the up and up and your ass will be handed to you by at least three posters who are experts in the field, regardless of which field it is. And also by at least a dozen people who can "Google" the Hell out of something and find in-depth expert analysis, discussion and books on the subject both pro and con.

An in addition, your grammar, punctuation, syntax, will be scrutinized until every dangling participle is exposed for the world to see.

Oh. And at least 10 posters will tell you that it has already been posted.....three times...and give links to the other threads.
