Rice pointedly declined to rule out running for president in 2008 on Friday during an hour-long interview with reporters at WASHINGTON TIMES, top sources tell DRUDGE. Rice gave her most detailed explanation of a 'mildly pro-choice' stance on abortion, she would not want the government 'forcing its views' on abortion... She explained that she is libertarian on the issue, adding: 'I have been concerned about a government role'... Developing late Friday for Saturday cycles... MORE...
(President George W.) Bush:Not so different from Condi's views.
--opposes abortion except in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother
--supports laws under which parents are notified if minors undergo abortions
--supports a ban on partial-birth (late-term) abortions
--opposes the use of taxpayer money to pay for abortions
--will not try to change the constitution to outlaw abortion. Source: The Economist, Issues 2000 special Sep 30, 2000
Oh, we're all just liars when we relate personal stories of people we know. Liars and friends of murderers. I'm glad I don't live in that world.
I think alot of people are simply talking past each other here - I don't know too many people that would refuse to allow abortion when the life of the mother is at stake. That's considered to be the uncompromising pro-life position.
And most don't have a problem voting for someone who supports exceptions in the case of rape and incest, even if they would prefer to not see those exceptions made.
I agree w/ you about your "mildly pro-choice" comment: some on FR might say that I'm pro-abortion 'cuz I wanna see Roe v. Wade repealed & the abortion issue given back to the states...thus allowing a liberal state like California the right to decide what the people want to do.
bumping
So you voted for a "mildly" pro-choice candidate last time around but won't this time.
Hmmmm....maybe marajade was right.
Well, that's for sure my position. But I can see a lot of people on this thread don't even believe in those exceptions.
But as to people talking past each other, definitely.
What would you do if you found out your daughter was having sex out of wedlock? What if she got pregnant? What if she had an abortion?
Would she be scum? I doubt it. You may hate what she did, but you'd have to come to terms. Even if it were illegal, she might still abort the baby.
I know abortion is wrong. I just feel deeply for (most of) the women who have abortions. It will stay with them. They will deal with God. They deserve some bit of our pity and compassion.
Do you know that president Bush believes in the three exception rule?
Why wouldn't you vote for Bush?
You can say that I used the race card. I will say I didn't.
How do you "deliver" an ectopic pregnancy?
The Drudge article gives a much different impression. Bush is considered solidly pro-life for his views, so why muddy the waters and call herself "mildly pro-choice" if her views are the same?
Hillary is so in.
As if EITHER of them has even been nominated.
Since you get to tell your story of your friend's daughter, let me tell you about my sister.
She is actually my half-sister, since her father was a rapist. Raped my Mom.
Thankfully, she was born in 1965, before the death industry had been established in America.
So she, innocent child of a rapist that she was, was allowed her God-given and unalienable right to live. She was put up for adoption, raised by a wonderful Christian family, and today has three beautiful kids herself.
Whenever I hear people try and undermine support for the right to life by diverting the debate to rare exceptions, I think of her and her family...
My sister had two ectopic pregnancies. It was heartbreaking.
But according to the absolutists here, she should have just died and left two children.
