Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- A California businessman has offered Terri Schiavo's estranged husband $1 million to not starve her to death and to transfer legal guardianship for her to Terri's family.
Robert Herring, Sr., lives in San Diego and is the founder of WEALTHTV, a lifestyle and entertainment television channel. He also spent more than 30 years in the electronics industry as the founder and owner of HERCO Technology, which he later sold to a larger firm.
Herring contacted infamous attorney Gloria Allred to pay Michael Schiavo $1 million if he complies with Herring's request.
"After viewing video of Terri on television, I came to the belief that there was hope for her," Herring said in a statement Thursday. "As events have proceeded in the legal battle, it became clear to me that if something was not done for Terri, that all hope for her would be lost."
The money has been placed in a a trust account operated by Allred on Wednesday and the attorney sent a letter to Michael Thursday morning comunicating the offer.
There is no word on whether Michael will accept the offer. Should he do so, courts will still need to sign off on changing legal guardian ship for Terri.
Herring said he acted now because he is worried that Florida courts will not turn back on their decision to allow Michael to starve Terri to death next week.
"With a date of March 18th quickly approaching, and no other viable hope for Terri to be able to keep her feeding tube, I felt compelled to act," he said.
Allred confirmed Herring's rationale.
"It now appears that the court process is ending, and that the legislative process has failed to stop the removal of the feeding tube," she said.
"He recognizes that unless something is done immediately, Terri Schiavo is not likely to survive very long," Allred added. "Knowing that time is of the essence and realizing that he is fortunate enough to be able to help, he has decided to take action.".
Allred was the attorney for Amber Frey in the infamous Scott Peterson trial. Frey had an affair with Scott during the time he killed Laci and Conner Peterson.
It is Permanently (not partially) but she clearly is not in a vegetative state.
Doesn't that just mean that they put the same motion before the court twice, and he could still allow her to have food and water in the other order?
Whoops! I must be hearing that from people who are clueless. Thanks for the correction.
"I don't want anyone trying to feed that girl," Greer thundered. "The law of the case is that she is going to die." (all that's missing is the harrrruuuph! and the stomping of his foot.)
(sorry about the above in #104. I posted something to the wrong thread - I'm asking the mods to have it removed)
He denied both. Pay attention.
A feeding tube is not a machine!!! It is no more of a "machine" that giving a baby a bottle. Many people have them that are walking around, working, and at regular intervals using a syringe with a high nutrient liquid drink (when I worked as nurse, I gave these feedings, sometimes with the patient telling me how! )They are used for many reasons and in Terri's case, because of inability to swallow and danger of aspiration pneumonia.
I would not be troubled with removing the tube IF they allowed ice chips and tried small feedings. If she was unable to do this and died from complications, then it was God's will. To remove the tube and withhold hydration and any food at all is just cruel! Do that to your dog, cat or children and you'd land in jail.
Well yeah, but he also said this is a duplicate motion, which he'll rule on in the other motion. This isn't a final ruling. It can't be. For one thing, it would be an illegal ruling. He can't forbid her to have food and water.
Oops - update: "He denied both."
He can't do that! This is not binding.
Correct. my bad, but my heart was in the right place.
Well, you and I would say DUH! But he has done it, and Michael and his lawyer declare they're going to stand by the judge's ruling. No food! No water! And we'll arrest anyone who even TRIES! (Were you aware that last time the court refused to let her receive even a tiny sliver of a communion wafer for Last Rites? It might be construed as "nutrition," so it was denied. How can a judge deny a Catholic Last Rites???)
"I would not be troubled with removing the tube IF they allowed ice chips and tried small feedings."
Agreed. I've heard those silly rumors about the judge ordering no food and water by mouth, but until I saw his actual order, I just dismissed the rumors. I mean, come on! A judge can't order that. I'm still thinking there has to be a catch.
I'm still working on verifying the "no food and water" thing. Supposedly he ordered the same in the duplicate motion. I need to find that before I'll believe it. Now you tell me she was denied the Last Rites?
I still think Michael is being used by Felos for his goals.
Michael has gone on and wants out. The way it is being done is what bothers everyone. He could get out without demanding her death.
OMG - He really did order against her being allowed food and water by mouth! That can't be legal.
I still say she should be allowed to have the tube disconnected.
Both motions were requested by her parents and he has denied all motions of her parents. Why are you so troubled about efforts by her parents to keep her alive and not at all troubled by the other actions in motion to ensure Terri is killed?
Oh, as was mine (my heart, that is). Just trying to help keep things straight...
> So she's in and out.
The real question is whether she's really "in" at all. The video shows her making some rather vague responses. Is she *really* responding to things? Or, if you set the camera up to watch her 24/7, will you catch her making the same responses when nobody is there? People in PVS will something sit up, or bark out clear phrases or do other tiny snippets of activity, yet there's nobody home. Sort of a misfire between the brain stem and the memory centers, as I understand it.
> from what I heard she's called PVS - partially vegetative state
"Persistent" vegetative state, not partial (IIRC).
I am troubled by her wishes not being honored. That doesn't mean I don't want her to be allowed to eat.
