Hundreds Rally In Cheney For Churchill (from Eastern Washington University with video link)
KXLY News 4 Spokane ^ | March 10th, 2005 | News 4 reporter

Posted on 03/11/2005 1:23:56 AM PST by ajolympian2004

Hundreds of students and faculty rallied at Eastern Washington University Thursday, as they called on EWU President Steven Jordan to re-invite controversial speaker Ward Churchill to campus. They want Churchill, a professor of ethnic studies at the University of Colorado, to speak about Native American activism. In controversial remarks, Churchill has compared some 9/11 victims to nazi bureaucrats.

EWU says the security concerns are too great to invite him. Critics say they do not like his message and they do not want their tax dollars spent to bring him to campus. Supporters say his remarks have been taken out of context, and un-inviting him violates their freedom and Churchill's freedom of speech.

Churchill says he plans to come in April, whether the school invites him or not. The university is standing by its decision.

Churchill Rally Boasts Promise By NASA to Defy President's Dis-Invitation of Speaker

by Troy Kirby/Managing Editor March 09, 2005

More than 200 people gathered March 10 at the Eastern Washington University campus mall for a noon rally to Ward Churchill's April 5 appearance.

Vowing to defy EWU President Stephen Jordan's dis-invitation, the Native American Students Association says it will pick up Churchill April 4 at the Spokane International Airport, because he is scheduled to speak April 5 during Native American Awareness Week.

Jordan cancelled Churchill's lecture Feb. 4, citing security concerns.

The hour long rally had speakers from professors at EWU and Gonzaga who spoke in support of Churchill's scheduled lecture.

The crowd ranged from students who were curious about Churchill and the rally to people comparing Churchill to Civil Rights Leaders such as Caesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as Ghandi.

Not surprised at all.....I would expect the majority radical left in this state may try and get Mount Rainier renamed Mount Churchill....maybe even give him his own reservation and tribe!.....Heck....he might even get a statue of himself next to Lenin in Fremont!....ANYTHING is possible here when the Looney Left is involved....

The one good thing I can say is that the local media (TV, radio and newspapers) all have the mountain of evidence against Churchill in their possession so that when he shows up and is taking questions in a news conference they'll be ready for him like Malia from hawaiireporter.com was when Churchill was at the Univ. of Hawaii a few weeks ago. Malia's focused questioning caused Churchill to walk away from the news conference in a huff.

200 people of a 9,500 total student population is not very impressive. I remember an anti-war protest in 1973 at EWU where there were about 20 protesters of a student population of 6,500 outside the ROTC building. There were more people heckling the protesters than protesters.

EWU is a pretty conservative campus.

Oh good grief! His speech isn't being violated. He can go sit in any closet or stand on any street corner and spout his nonsense.

I can't believe his nonsense is being bought into by the Native American Students Association. Did they not get the word yet that he has no native american ancestors. He's not related by blood to any native american. They might as well invite me since I have as much claim to native american ancestry as Churchill does.

And comparing him to Ghandi, Dr. King and even Caesar Chavez is asinine. Let's see here; comparing the people who died in the towers as Nazi's, fraudulent forged paintings, questionable how he managed to become tenured and I'm sure there's more, it's just not coming off the top of my head. Yeah, I'd want that jerk to be representative of the Native American Students Association.

I guess he can make up some stories about how repressive it was to grow up on the reservation or how his grandfather led him down the spiritual path and as a
result he had his spirit dream.

How can this idiot have anything to say about native american activism when he always had his real white heritage to fall back on. The guy's a phony, a charlatan, a snake oil salesman.

There sure a lot of strange people in the world when someone like Churchill can be a hero to some.

Pigs are a flyin' here in Denver at the Rocky Mountain News. Every columnist there, liberal, moderate and conservative have been all over Churchill from one angle or another.

The main stream media in Hawaii and at the Churchill Wisconsin-Whitewater did a great job. How irritated Churchill became with the questioning at both events is proof.

When will the Board of Regents take action? This sicko, liberal, academic A-hole needs to be booted out on his ass NOW; there's enough grounds for termination based upon his fraudulent application alone. I don't understand why the state is apparently looking at buyout. If I were a CO resident and my tax dollars had to go to a buyout, I'd be fuming!

"More than 200 people gathered March 10 at the Eastern Washington University "

How hard would it be to find 200 wacko, left-wing radicals in Washington? About as hard as it would be to find wolves to play with you if you were wearing a pork chop necklace.

I was there in 1970 for two quarters when it was Eastern Washington College. It was a conservative campus then.

You live out there, huh? I feel sorry for your kids, I bet they teach them that the Space Needle is a phallic symbol of capitalistic power.
I've never been to your wonderful state but I've heard, many times of its beauty and cleanliness(I'm by Chicago). Why is it that all those awesome places on the west coast attract so many crazies?

I thought that Eastern Washington(ouside the colleges)was a very conservative place that unfortunately gets branded as liberal due to Seattle liberals outnumbering the rest of the state.
That is certainly the case here in Northern PA.
