Bush voters not welcome here

Posted on 03/08/2005 12:00:16 PM PST by CovenBuster

Ocean Haven, which claims to welcome diversity, "Respecting the interdependence & diversity of all life," makes the following exceptions:

"FOR REASONS OF HEALTH & SAFETY, OCEAN HAVEN CANNOT ACCOMMODATE SMOKERS, PETS, FOLKS TRAVELING IN A HUMMER, OR FOLKS WHO VOTED FOR BUSH & HIS NATURE DESTRUCTIVE POLICIES."

This has been getting a lot of play - it even made the WSJ Opinion Journal. I have to believe it's one of the best PR stunts I've ever seen and out of all the people who see it, there will surely be enough Pharisees to fill their rooms forever.

It's a private business - they can exclude who they want. It isn't like Republicans will be lining up to go there, anyway

Really? It doesn't seem legal to me. I honestly don't know. Isn't that discrimination?

I'm sure the owners of this beach retreat would be able to point out specific examples of how their beachfront property has been adversely affected by Bush's policies. The reality is, there is no measurable difference between the environment there now and 10 years ago under Clinton.

"It doesn't seem legal to me. I honestly don't know. Isn't that discrimination?"

Discrimination based on political ideology is illegal in some places, such as Seattle, but I don't know what Oregon's law is. But it does raise the interesting question of whether even a private business can discriminate against someone merely because that person has exercised their constitutional right to vote. But, generally speaking, most state constitutions are concerned with describing and limiting the powers of government, not of the private sector.

We're for diversity, as long as you are like us.

And we are pro-choice, as long as you choose OUR choice.

they are "committed to reducing the impact on nature by limiting the number of guests"

But if they were truly committed to reducing the impact on nature, they would have no guests at all. These people want to reap the profit of exploiting nature, while maintaining a virtuous [to their way of thinking] "environmentalist" front.

It also seems that they provide nothing in the way of services, such as maid service or telephones in the rooms, which they also "spin" as some sort of benefit.

I'm wondering this is a spoof that someone has airbrushed or superimposed onto that website.

"Anyone here ever burn insence? I've burned incense before, never insence."

Well, I'm highly insensed at the whole thing. I do a motorcycle ride nearly every summer down the Oregon coast. I can't say that I've ever noticed this establishment before; I'll look closer next time. They could stand a good racking of my pipes!!
