Letter from MI GOP Chair Anuzis to MI Dem Chair Brewer
migop.org ^ | Saul Anuzis

Posted on 03/07/2005 5:49:11 PM PST by rightwingmichigander

Dear Mr. Brewer,

In your letter to me dated February 1, 2005, following a list of questions, you wrote:

"If we do not receive a response, we will assume you do not agree with the positions expressed by the Michigan Democratic Party."

As I am sure you are aware, I am the Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party (see numerous articles). As I am also sure you are aware, the Democrat and Republican parties have long been rival political parties (see U.S. history books; also read a newspaper), holding to separate ideologies and espousing oftentimes divergent platforms on a myriad of issues.

I hope you will not be too surprised to discover that there will be many issues expressed by the Democrat Party with which I do, and will continue to, disagree (see your and my job descriptions). Chief among those disagreements is the unconscionable level of unemployment existing in Michigan since Jennifer Granholm became governor, and the generally poor state of Michigan's economy - especially when compared to other states - that has resulted during her term.

Since you are such a curious fellow and thought enough to solicit my opinions, I would like to be polite and ascertain your thoughts on a few issues:

1. Do you support Governor Granholm's administration and policies that have resulted in Michigan's unemployment levels being the highest among all 50 states?

2. Are you willing to join me in calling for Governor Granholm to not seek re-election so long as Michigan remains the state with the both the highest unemployment and the highest state budget deficit?

3. Do you support Governor Granholm who called state school Superintendent Tom Watkins a valued member of her administration, or do you support the "other and mysterious" Governor Granholm who was simultaneously calling for Tom Watkins to resign?

4. Will you join me in stating that Governor Granholm has abdicated her leadership position on unemployment and the economy, focusing instead on creating 100+ person advisory boards instead of fixing the tax and regulatory structure that hinders Michigan job creators and deters employers from relocating in Michigan (see Nero fiddling while Rome burns)?

5. Do you agree with American freedom, prosperity, and security as expressed in the Republican Party platform (http://www.gop.com/media/2004platform.pdf)?

One point I want to be absolutely clear about is that I do not blame the unemployment level or the disadvantageous business climate on Michigan workers. Nor do I blame the job providers. I do blame a non-competitive tax structure and a burdensome regulatory environment. And I blame Governor Granholm for spending more than two years avoiding being a leader and presenting ways to address these problems. If she had spent half as much time working to improve the economy as she has talking about being a mom and cleaning up messes, Michigan would be in a lot better shape.

I request that you respond to these questions by February 8, 2005. Please fax your response to 517- 487-0090. If I do not receive a response by midnight on the aforementioned date, (a) you will turn into a pumpkin, (b) I will assume you do not agree with the positions expressed by the Michigan Republican Party and consent to my expressing profound shock and dismay to that effect at every available opportunity, and (c) I will assume that you do agree with my views and positions on Governor Granholm (and won't mind me saying so).

Sincerely, Saulius "Saul" Anuzis Chairman

Anuzis hasn't yet received a response letter from Brewer. The current headline on the Michigan Republican Party Website is "BREWER CALLS ON GRANHOLM TO NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION"

I love our new Chairman.

Sounds like Anuzis has got the right stuff. I think the Michigan GOP has underperformed in recent years.

You got that right. Losing the Governorship, Senate seat, and decrease in majority in state house isn't good.

Hopefully Saul will put us back on track.

Was this written in crayon? The style is so juvenille...almost unprofessional. I think the MI GOP may need an infusion of leadership.

Lighten up. This guy is exactly what the GOP needs. He is a former democrat who saw the light in College of all places and worked for Reagan's campaign and numerous Gubernatorial races. He knows how the enemy thinks.
He isn't juvenile. It sounds to me like you don't have a sense of humor.
What's juvenile is the actions of the MI Democratic Party and Jennifer Granholm over the past two years.

He sounds good to me. Just the right amount of satire and rib jabbing to take on the conniving socialists in this state.

The only problem I had was his complaint about the Marxist, unelected bureaucrats in the state. He's in a position to do something about that. I believe there's 40 to 50,000 bureaucrats stealing taxpayer money so they can harass people and collect a fat paycheck. He could begin by firing 25,000 bureaucrats and taking law-making power away from what remains.

Barring that, he might consider making the working environment intolerable for bureaucrats so they quit on their own. This could be done by cutting their pay in half and selling the buildings they work in to private businesses. Let bureaucrats work in tents.

While I agree that there are many unneccessary bureaucrats in this state, Chairman Anuzis really doesn't have the power to eliminate those posts. He is just the cairman of a political party. Now, if you meant that he has the power to recruit candidates that can do something about it, then I agree with you.

I have a good sense of humor which is why I didn't find this funny. Why is he "exactly what we need" and what gives you confidence given the fact that you've lost the governor's seat and the Senate seats in recent years.

I have confidence because Anuzis wasn't chairman when we lost the Governorship and Senate seat in recent years. He is a hot-off-the-press, brand new chairman elected last month. He was endorsed by 15 out of 15 chairmen of Michigans 15 congressional districts, all but one of Michigan's Republican delegation to congress, previous republican state officials, and other party members.
He is exactly what we need because he isn't afraid to get in the faces of democrats and get under their skin, which I guess is something you find "unprofessional" of a Republican chairman.

Because his bullied and lied about the other candidates and he was the only one running. Those endorsements were made with noses held.
