Oldest biped skeleton discovered - new evolution record, 1.2 millions added in one day

A joint Ethiopian-US team of palaeontologists announced on Saturday they had discovered the world's oldest biped skeleton to be unearthed so far, dating it to between 3.8 and four million years old.

"This is the world's oldest biped," Bruce Latimer, director of the natural history museum in Cleveland, Ohio, told a news conference in the Ethiopian capital, adding that "it will revolutionise the way we see human evolution".

The bones were found three weeks ago in Ethiopia's Afar region, at a site some 60 kilometres from Hadar where Lucy, one of the first hominids, was discovered in 1974. Researchers at the site in northeast Ethiopia have in all unearthed 12 hominid fossils, of which parts of one skeleton were discovered.

Only rarely do they ever get to relax or even "play".

Nonsense. The ravens here play hard every day. Every day they fly into town like drunks heading out to their favorite bar. Town is a huge playground for them, endless entertainment. They aren't alone. The world is a huge smorgasbord for all the animals. Eat, sleep, procreate, reflect on this paradise. Just like us, except we are more violent.

Ichneumon, you merciless wasp, you must be as arrogant an atheist as Dennett, Dawkins and the ACLU imperialists. I know what Dennett meant and I stand by my interpretation.
I hope this upsets you. Call more names, it hurts so good.

If you don't believe creation happened..where did the universe begin and organization start?

Is this sort of "lying for the cause" of creationism considered okay, especially when it falsely slanders an evolutionary biologist? Because it sure is common behavior from folks on your side of the fence.

It seems that that behavior is ok for "soldiers of God".

True! I saw a show on TV the other night about fossils. They had rocks that had been "carbon dated" to be 140million years old. Broke some of them open and one had a modern battery in it, one had a newish style hammer, and I forgot what the other one had. The point was that carbon dating is NOT accurate. These fossils were not very old at all.

Which creationist website did you get that off of. It is BS slander. C-14 dating is NOT used for rocks. C-14 is NOT used to date items millions of years old. Seems you have been fed some bs or are you feeding us BS?????

the last 6,000-10,000 years.

So you admit the earth is older than 6000 years?

You read the unadulterated quotes and you still stand by what you posted. Dear Lord! Lurkers, please note, this creationist is the most dishonest person to ever grace these threads.

I can think of quite a few who could compete for that title. But he's maybe in the top dozen or so.

What exactly is your position? I don't base my faith on world knowledge....because the world really doesn't know much. My faith is based upon God and His Word. Darwin's Theory is completely contradictory to God. As for science it doesn't go against God. All of creation points to our Creator. I think I am missing what message you are trying to convey to me.

I predict that not one creationist will criticize his changing the quotes. Creationism makes Dan Rather look honest.

No, he isn't. But he probably does make the top ten.

Note that no Creationist even criticizes his deliberate misquotes. We must assume that deliberate mangling of other's writings is OK with Creationists and that any quotation made from any source by any Creationst has been distorted.

Hey there.

I was just reading one of those articles - Do any vestigial structures exist in humans - and I have a couple questions about the commentary.

(1) In the early part of the article, the author seems to promise that he will demonstrate that the coccyx and the auricular muscle are useful structures that cannot be deemed vestigial. For some reason, he then failed to do so. Why not? I find this disconcerting.

(2) Why do men have nipples?

Another Mad as the Hornet!? How do you know I'm a creationist? Are you an evolved Mutant X? Telepathy?
Read my initial quote about dishonesty, confusion and intolerant dogmatists.

It is more of a mistake to base faith on misinterpretation of the Bible and scientific ignorance.

If you reject what God has created, you reject God.

God created evolution as his process for life on Earth.

I don't know what message he is trying to impart to you.

Here is a message for you:

It is only the misinterpretation of the Bible by Morris, Ham, Dembski and various hick pastors that keep those ignorant of science from being enlightened as to how God really created.

There is no conflict between biology and Christianity, if you stop putting the false argument in biology about creation. Creation is not in the theory of evolution.

Darwin described technical scientific processes involved in species changes, not origin of life.

I was on a trip to Mexico a couple of years back and while visiting a Mayan city our guide showed us a fossilized skeleton he said was 4 to 5 hundred years old. I wonder what carbon testing would tell us on that? Probably 3 to 4 million. Moral don't put your faith in carbon dating.
