Bush's hydrogen future is here (Big break through)
United Nuclear ^

Posted on 03/07/2005 10:45:56 AM PST by JeffersonRepublic.com

United Nuclear is currently in final testing, and will shortly be producing Hydrogen Fuel Systems & Hydrogen generators for several late model, fuel injected, Gasoline powered vehicles.

Powering a vehicle by Hydrogen is by no means a new idea, and in fact, almost all automobile manufacturers are currently developing a new generation of vehicles that run on Hydrogen as opposed to Gasoline. This new generation of vehicles are essentially electric cars that use a Fuel Cell instead of a battery to run the electric motor. Using a chemical process, Fuel Cells in these new vehicles convert the stored Hydrogen on board, and the Oxygen in the air, directly into electricity to power their electric motors. These new vehicles are very efficient, and in fact are more efficient than any internal combustion engine. The problem is that these new vehicles are years away from production, are very expensive, and converting to using Hydrogen fuel in this manner requires you to buy a new ( and expensive ) vehicle. All Hydrogen/Fuel Cell systems currently under development by large manufacturers have you purchase Hydrogen as you would Gasoline. Our system comes with its own "in-home" Hydrogen generator which allows you to manufacture fuel yourself at near zero cost. Our Hydrogen conversion is an intermediate approach that simply converts your existing vehicle to burn Hydrogen or Gasoline. The Gasoline fuel system remains intact and is not modified. This allows you to switch between running on Gasoline or Hydrogen at any time. The engine itself is only slightly modified, the conversion makes substantial changes to the computer & electrical system, ignition and cooling systems. Since they never have to be removed, Hydrogen fuel storage (Hydride tanks) can be installed in virtually any available space within the vehicle.

Did you know that the clouds and rainwater have a natural form of hydrogen peroxide in it ? Yes, I know they uses to use, or still do use a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide in rocket fuel , but, it is very unstable.

Wouldn't it be possible to come up with fuel cells that can be made out of a number of things to produce the same type of power ?

I don't believe it. It takes energy to produce elemental Hydrogen.

im guessing that they are using hydrogen in a gas phase

Acetylene is stored in an adsorptive medium inside an acetylene tank. The same can be done with hydrogen.

Solar cell technology is undergoing a major breakthough using nano technology. Now the infrared portion of the light spectrum can be converted to electricity. We might see cars painted with this stuff to convert water into hydrogen while your car is parked at the grocery store.

Solar cells technology is undergoing a revolutionary breakthrough using nano technology. The efficiency of such cells has been increased with the development of paintable plastic solar cells that can harness the sun's invisible, infrared rays, and could deliver up to five times the power of the most advanced photovoltaic cells today. Look for 2006 as the year that this begins to be rolled out to the consumer market.

Shall we start by painting all the white lines on the roads and hooking them up to the grid?

"The storage system for the hydrogen is amazing. It makes sense I just wonder how much it will cost you in electricity to produce the hydrogen. United Nuclear converted a 1994 corvette to burn hydrogen or gas, and got 650 miles on a hydrogen tank."

How many 18 wheelers were used to tow the tank of hydrogen?

How many BTUs are in gasoline and hydrogen.

I wondered the same thing myself. Here's some info I found:

1 Kg of hydrogen contains the same amount of energy as 2.1 Kg of natural gas or 2.8 Kg of gasoline." To clarify a point, hydrogen ranks last when the comparing energy density by volume. Hydrogen possesses 2.36 kWh/liter as a liquid, natural gas contains 5.8 kWh/liter and gasoline registers at 8.76 kWh/liter.

They claim that they can get more hydrogen in a tank of hydrides than a similar volume of liquid hydrogen, so it might just be comparable on a specific energy/volume basis. I bet a tank of hydrides is heavy, though, much heavier than a comparable volume of gasoline I'm sure. As to the mileage they claim, it's very easy to do much better than the EPA ratings if you drive in a controlled environment at a constant speed. So it's possible they really did get 650 miles out of a tank of hydrogen stored in hydrides of comparable size to the normal gas tank, but that doesn't necessarily mean you could get similar mileage in the real world.

I'm still pretty skeptical, but it does appear that it might not be out of the realm of possibility.

as many others have pointed out, the oil cartel will do everything in their power to thwart these alternate energy initiatives. what do you suggest be used to level the playing field?

How about using a self sealing tanks like they use on jetliners ?
I don't know, using Hydrogen can't be any worse or dangerious than using propane or natural gas in a car.

Well, we can take the approach and look at it as was the same when they were searching for the holy grail of powered flight 102 years ago.
Yes, some solutions are more elusive than others, but, we just need to keep researching and keep working on it and come up with a solution to the problem.

" This allows you to switch between running Gasoline or Hydrogen at any time "
Is that conversion in the computers and electrical systems of the cars ?
Can it be switched between the 2 automatically by the cars computers ? or do you have to put the car in the shop to change between Gasoline or Hydrogen when you want to run either ?

May happen sooner than anyone thinks.

Especially if we don't get Chavez under control and stop Red China from buying up all the excess oil.

Opps.. self correction,,
Hot water heaters are regulated by the temperature of the water when it's time to run or stop.
A air compressor in a gas station or auto body shop is regulated by a pressure regulator, to regulate when it's time to start, and when it's time to stop.

“It's not research and development but rather a flawed understanding of thermodynamics. Private money does not make it true even though you may want it to be. Private money is good, wasting it because you don't understand thermodynamics is bad.”

I do understand the laws of thermodynamics, I was a math major in at Chico state, yet I don’t understand your logic “Private money is good, wasting it because you don’t understand thermodynamics is bad”? Do you mean that during the conversion there is too much heat waste within the hydrogen system when compared with the crude oil system?

Converting oil into gasoline takes energy to produce and releases energy when it is used. The same is true with every energy source. If you look at the total kinetic energy of crude oil its ~45 mj/kg, the total kinetic energy of hydrogen is ~142 mj/kg.

Now I’m not sure how much energy it takes to produce a gallon of gas – exploration, drilling, pumping, exporting-shipping/pipeline/trucking, refining, shipping again, station cost, etc. etc. …. Nor do I know the cost of producing hydrogen. But there is three times the kinetic energy in hydrogen, so logic should tell you – keep an open mind and don’t shoot an idea out of the sky if you don’t know how it works.

Maybe the only way for hydrogen is through nuclear and/or coal, but it’s worth the time and money to find out.

Well,, if it can be produced by using coal, and using coal in a clean way, why not.
Doesn't the USA have one of the most largest reserves of coal in the world ? .
It would be ironic, this new method of producing energy for cars or homes would become used world wide, guess who the world will be coming to , to provide them with coal ? the USA.

As stated, the oxygen and hydrogen from water are seperated. The oxygen is released back into the atmosphere, and the hydrogen is converted for storage. The converter can run on solar power, wind power (for those near Lake Michigan), or plugged into a 110v outlet.

I believe that electrolosis is more expensive than "reforming" methane or alcohol to yield H2 and CO2. The "home hydrogen" units that I have seen convert natural gas. TANSTAAFL.
