Sub Caused Beached Dolphins (barf alert)

The Navy and marine wildlife experts are investigating whether the beaching of dozens of dolphins in the Florida Keys followed the use of sonar by a submarine on a training exercise off the coast.....
A day before the dolphins swam ashore, the USS Philadelphia had conducted exercises with Navy SEALs off Key West, about 45 miles from Marathon, where the dolphins became stranded....
Navy officials refused to say if the submarine, based at Groton, Conn., used its sonar during the exercise.
Some scientists surmise that loud bursts of sonar, which can be heard for miles in the water, may disorient or scare marine mammals, causing them to surface too quickly and suffer the equivalent of what divers know as the bends when sudden decompression forms nitrogen bubbles in tissue.

And as we know from many discussions of submarines on this board, subs ALWAYS use active sonar when submerged. < /sarcasm>
But, I'm sure that the ability to understand that point is lost on the 'blame the military' crowd.

Wait, I thought it was the Bush-ordered Tsunami that caused this! :)

And I'm sure somebody jumped too hard, and it caused terrorists to involuntarily fly planes into 3 buildings and a field. BS.

Have to admit the waters in that area are rather shallow, so they may have had their navigation sonar on. But it's just as likely that the SEALs made some very loud noises of their own in the water.
Neither of which may be related to the dolphins beaching themselves. They do it all over the world all the time.

I think it is all the fault of Ricky Williams (and his marijuana). Miami Dolphins had their worst season in 35 years, and the mammals just couldn't take it anymore.
See -- Marijuana bad --- keep it illegal. ROFLOL.

Anybody have good receipe for dolphin?I understand that the Japanese have several receipes for this delicacy. Unfortunately, a quick glance here turned up nothing of interest. Maybe a longer search...

{psst} Those Navy Seals got a little too horney for the dolphins!

Hey -- I like tuna (and dolphin) -- usually mixed with celery, lettuce, bacon, and mayo inside submarine split bread.

Dolphins only beach themselves after being in proximity to an American submarine. Call Dan Rather or the NY Times, they might need a good story line!

It should be looked into.
You folks may want to make light of this, but we should figure out the effects of what we are doing.

Pretty weak construct, some scientists - may disorient? Sounds like junk science to me.

It is certainly possible that Navy sonar is responsible for whales and dolphins beaching themselves.
