U.S. Ambassador and MDP Head to Meet over Hillary's Visit to Pyongyang
SEOUL, March 6 (Yonhap) -- The head of South Korea's minor opposition Millennium Democratic Party plans to meet U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Christopher Hill this week over a possible visit to North Korea by a group of U.S. senators, including Hillary Clinton, party officials said Sunday.
Hill has requested the meeting with Han Hwa-kap scheduled for Monday at the party's head office in Seoul, they said.
Hill was named last week to become an assistant secretary of state handling Asian affairs, a job that will double him to serve as the chief U.S. nuclear negotiator with North Korea.
Han is pushing to visit North Korea along with U.S. congress members later this year for talks with the communist country's leader, Kim Jong-il, on the ongoing nuclear tension on the Korean Peninsula, the officials said.
Han, who heads the Asian part of the Asia-U.S. Network, a forum of lawmakers from both continents, said earlier this year that he has sent invitations to five U.S. congressmen, including Republican senators Conrad Burns of Montana and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, to visit North Korea.
Han also noted that the New York senator, Clinton, wished to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il personally to discuss the ongoing nuclear standoff. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had actively pushed rapprochement with the North's regime in the final months of his Administration.
"We understand that the U.S. Congress and administration strongly support Sen. Hillary Clinton's North Korea visit," an aide to the Korean opposition leader said, requesting anonymity.
The United States and South Korea have met in three rounds of talks that also involve Japan, China, Russia and the North to bring a peaceful end to the 29-month dispute over the North's nuclear weapons program.
The countries have been unable to convene the next round, since the North refused to attend a scheduled meeting in September, citing what it calls U.S. hostility toward Pyongyang.
The situation has also worsened recently, following a series of announcements by Pyongyang that it now has atomic weapons and would boycott future disarmament talks and resume testing long-range missiles.
The North Korean leader, however, hinted at resuming the stalled dialogue by telling a visiting Chinese envoy last month that his country would return to the negotiating table if certain conditions are met.
SHE requested huh??
Yes, Roger usually was stoned out of his mind. He and his governor brother used to give underage girls cocaine at the Vantage Point Apartments and have their way with them.
Read it again .. it says that SHE wished to meet with them
Congressman Billybob
hillary notes
take dance lessons from madeline albright
mention you are good friends with jimmy carter
don't forget to ask for seconds during meals
ask if they need any more nucleur fuel for their peaceful reactor program
tell them you don't like american troops in korea either
Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if Bill tagged along too.
"He Must Be Ronery..."
Maybe Pres. Bush is sending Her Excellency there to delivery his ultimatum to the little s***. Knowing Bush it would probably not be to wordy, just something simple like, "NOW!"
Just exactly why is Hillary giving the honor to the N. Koreans by recognizing and visiting them, when we refuse to have two-party talks with them.
I can just imagine her and McCain making anti-US comments, criticizing the US and Bush, while they are shaking hands with Kim Jung Il.
YOu got that right ROFL
That the one LOL!!
He had to be stoned perform in North Korea ROFL
Gift to Kim Jong Il from Roger Clinton
Pyongyang, December 7 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received a gift from U.S. pop singer Roger Clinton on a visit to Korea.
He handed it to Kim Yong Sun, chairman of the Korean Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.
(The gift was a large bag of the Peruvian marching powder.)
"Give up your nucular weapons - or I'll send Hillary to throw a lamp at you!"
I hope Kim Jong-Il thinks taking them hostage is a good idea. I can always dream yes ?
BECAUSE ,...she is lacking in some vital character traits for a very sucessful political career[lucky for us] she has a "tin ear" and is "ham-handed" when it comes down to it
The more the attacks against Condi keep multiplying from Hill friendly sources, the more she chases desperately the same acclaim Condi naturally earns as her due, the more Hill is going to look increasingly desperate. A sad pathetic aging figure to the American public. This is beginning to reek of desperation. She's trying to piggyback on the President's accomplishments and commandeer the positive feeling Condi is generating for her accomplishments.
Even if Condi has no desire to run, even if we discover Condi's positions are not close enough to the base to be nominated (still an unknown), she is destroying Hillary by setting an example for the country of what type of woman we should seek to represent us as a nation. The longer Condi is in this position as SOS, the worse it is going to reflect on Hill. Subconsciencely the nation is taking note of both women and it is not to Hill's benefit. Voting can be as much instinctual as conscious.
Further, Laura has already cast a blow against Hillary by being herself. A graceful, kind, loving wife of quiet intelligence that understands the duties of First Lady and doesn't seek a co-Presidency.
"Han also noted that the New York senator, Clinton, wished to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il personally to discuss the ongoing nuclear standoff. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had actively pushed rapprochement with the North's regime in the final months of his Administration."
You go, girl! Next to that picture of Hitlery and Suha Arafat kissing, place the one of the embrace of Hitlery and Kim. They will look like twins in their matching Mao Tse Tung pantsuits. She never met a terrorist she didn't like.
How about stopping silly visits by "well meaning " political opponents of our current administration under the circumstance of a "rogue state" threating nuclear mayhem?
Sure it may stifle some real fun speculation about Condi's this versus Hil's that but we are adults, we can handle it.
Hit a nerve?
I have no power to dictate governments Hill is sanctioned to visit.
No, for the record, I do not desire her visiting N.K. anymore than I enjoyed Kerry's Global jaunt but it was not in my power to bring to an end. I ranted about that trip. At the end what was achieved? Apparently nothing to Kerry's consequence and wastest moments focusing on what was beyond my control.
If I prefer to amuse myself with other discussion rather than fixate impotently on Hill's suspect activities with North Korea, that is my decision. You can feel free to focus on the subject of your choice. In my view each discussion being entertained here has little ability to effect any consequential role in Washington.
